NIS virus definitions

Hello.

I have Norton Internet Security 2005 regularly renewed.

Under Systen Status I get the warning Urgent Attention - "Your virus definitions are out of date.Run Live Update for the latest virus protection up dates"

I have run Live Update many times but still get a red warning that my virus definitions last updated 28 August 2010.

I have the feeling I must have deleted some "definitions" by mistake when clearing out a lot of temporary files on my hard drive.

Is there anyway I can download the complete set of current virus definitions?

Many thanks,

Alan

This is the SECOND thread we received regarding the 2005 version of Norton (see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/NAV-2005-No-more-updates/m-p/335363/h...).  Perhaps, Symantec has pulled the plug with that version because it's way TOO old. As long as I know, Symantec STOPS producing defs for products OLDER than 4 years!

If your computer meet the below requirements, you can buy the 2011 version of Norton Internet Security (http://us.norton.com/internet-security/)

An added advantage of using the 2011 version is that you can UPGRADE to the LATEST version for FREE at http://www.norton.com/nuc".  Those using NIS2005 and older are not eligible.

Requirements for Norton Internet Security 2011

Operating Systems Supported

  • Microsoft® Windows® XP (32-bit) Home/Professional/Tablet PC/Media Center (32-bit) with Service Pack 2 or later

  • Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Professional/Ultimate

  • 300 MHz for Microsoft Windows XP, 1 GHz for Microsoft Windows Vista/Microsoft Windows 7
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 300 MB of available hard disk space
  • CD-ROM or DVD drive (if not installing via electronic download)
Support for Antispam
  • Microsoft Outlook® 2002 or later
  • Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 or later
  • Windows Mail (spam filtering only)

Re: NIS virus definitions

Hi,

you can get the latest virus definitons for NIS2005 from here: http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95  (the 3rd one: 20101130-003-x86.exe where NIS2005 is listed).

But if you use Windows XP (SP3) or later, as others wrote before, it is advised to use a newer version. If you use an older Windows version, you should check which Norton product is the latest one that works with your Windows version.

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 Hungarian, Norton 360 v20.3.1.22, Norton Utilities 16

I suggest you to follow PapauZ's post. In addition to that, you need to make sure that the system date and time are correct. Also, there is one more tool "PiUpdate" that we can try. Here is the KB:

Virus definitions or Protection Updates date does not change after running LiveUpdate
