I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2009 trial on my home computer to see if I want to purchase it. I previously had another security suite which I uninstalled and wanted to try Norton. For years I've used Citrix ICA client on my WinXP Pro 32-bit machine to gain access to my work computer. Never had a problem. After installing Norton, the Citrix client no longer works. It stops at "Applying network policy" and goes no further. Tried disabling firewall in NIS2009 but Citrix still wouldn't connect. As a last resort, I uninstalled NIS2009 and am now able to connect to my work domain via the Citrix client, but I currently have no security suite installed. Do you know of any special settings in NIS2009 I can try to configure to get Citrix client to work with it? The only thing I tried was to disable firewall in NIS2009, but that didn't help. I wonder if NIS2009 is preventing Citrix from changing network settings on my computer, but I'm no guru there. There doesn't seem to be anything on the citrix site regarding connectivity issues with Citrix ICA client and Norton.
I didn't have a problem using Citrix with my other security suite which was BitDefender.
Thanks,
Jon.

Hi Jon,
I found that the Citrix ICA client requires the following ports to be opened via firewall:
- TCP/IP outbound 1494
- UDP outbound 1604
- UDP inbound from 1023 to 65535
If any of these is blocked by Firewall or Intrusion Prevention, similar problem may happen. You can try to create a general rule to open the above ports for communication through the firewall and then check for the issue. Apart from firewall, I don't think that any other feature can block the access through Citrix ICA client.

Thanks, I will reinstall NIS2009 tonight when I get home and see if I can find where to enter those rules then try Citrix again.
Even with firewall disabled in NIS, Intrusion Prevention still works?

Strange! After I installed NIS2009 again just to see if I can get Citrix to work with it, everything seems to be fine! No problems logging onto my work network now with Citrix client and NIS2009 installed. The only thing I did different this time was that I did not perform a full computer scan after installation, just a quick scan. Will try that now to see if that does anything to Citrix. I'll post back here tomorrow of the results.
Thanks,
Jon.

Tried Citrix again after the full scan finished, and no problems! Not sure what the deal was the first time I installed NIS2009. Thanks for taking the time to help me out anyway.
Jon.
