NIS2009 causing BSOD on XP pro SP3 on restart

Greetings All,

I recently installed NIS 2009 on A machine running XP Pro SP3 (see specs below). The installation went smoothly and I was able to update NIS2009 and do a full scan, run a game etc.

On restart my PC went into a BSOD loop with the blue screen appearing just following XP load and in transition to the password screen. The blue screen transitioned to a restart very quickly but I once saw the following message;

IRQL not less or equal

Once in this loop I was unable to boot into safe mode. A minor panic set in.

I began to systematically unplug hardware components (based on the blue screen error message) until I was able boot into safemode. The conflicting components were both IDE drives. A standard floppy drive and a LiteOn CD burner.

After booting into safe mode I was able to uninstall NIS2009. Following this the PC started as usual.

I have previously run AVG and Zone Alarm, then Trend Micro security packages on this PC. Have scrubbed these from the system as best I can but still get the BSOD loop on restart if NIS is installed. I have also used other malware scanners to try to ensure that the NIS is being installed on as cleaner system as possible to no effect.

The issue is very repeatable.

Installed NIS 2009 on my partners machine (running XP home) no probs.

System specs;

Windows build 2600 xpsp_3 -gdr.080814-1236

Running on-

MSI FIS2R Neo 875P

P4 2.6

2gb Corsair RAM

HIS IceQ 1650pro video card (ATI driver)

LiteOn CD burner

standard floppy drive

Corsair HX620 PSU

Any suggestions welcome

Simon

Hi Simon_652,

Since you had a few different security products installed previously, uninstalling through the Windows Add-Remove may have left remnants behind. You might want to run the removal tools specific for each:

AVG Removal

Trend Micro Removal

Zone Alarm Removal

Let us know how you do.

There have also been problems with the Cyberlink software that comes bundled with the 1650.  You might check this thread to see if you have any of the identified products.

These are the bundled products.  A search on this forum under Cyberlink also provides more info.

Includes:
- Microsoft Dungeon Siege Full
- CyberLink PowerDirector 5 SE
Plus
- CyberLink Power2Go 5 - CD
- CyberLink Mediashow 3

Re: NIS2009 causing BSOD on XP pro SP3 on restart

I have exactly same problem with win xp/sp3 with nis 09

Always have BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

And FYI i had no previous different security suite nor i had any cyberlink software and all those which are mentioned here.

This is a serious issue and need to b addressed.

Hi Ro:

Do you get any other messages or numbers with that error?  Does it happen while shutting down, scanning, start up?

Re: NIS2009 causing BSOD on XP pro SP3 on restart

Thanks for the reply,

Sorry for not keeping up but after making the post I have been unable to access the community page from home. Now posting from work.

I have used specific removal tools for both trend micro and AVG but couldn't find one for zonealarm. Thanks for the link, 'll give that a go as well.

I should also have mentioned that after all the removals and running the removal tools I ran a registry cleaner as well but that didn't help either. Otherwise the machine is running smoothly, better than ever in fact.

Cheers

I haven't installed any bundled software, just the driver for the video card. But i'll look into it, thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers

Simon

At what point during this process did you run a registry cleaner? Can you tell us which one you used?

Are you still getting the BSOD?

I ran CC cleaner after deleting unwanted programs and using the removal tools.

Not now that NIS 2009 is unistalled. But yes, following installation of NIS 2009 I get BSOD on restart. Every time. Very reproducible effect. NIS2009 and computer seem to run fine until the restart.
