Please take this question in the spirit intended, but have you used CCleaner before? Did you delete all the default registry entries that were presented to you?
Also, at any time during the uninstall of NIS 2009, did you use the Norton Removal Tool here to be sure to clear out any remnants?
Thanks!

Hello every1
As i previously said i m also facing same problem and i hadn't used anything which u guys r telling so it can't be a problem consisting of any other antivir suite or ccleaner etc.
This is either norton related or hardware related.

Hello Rohit1gupta,
One thing I have learned here is that each computer is unique. You may even have a different version of NIS 2009 than does Simon_652.
Which leads me to a good question for Simon_652. Do you happen to know the version of your downloaded NIS 2009?

Hi Phil_D
Thanks, I won't take anything personally, and appreciate any suggestions you have, thanks for your time.
Yes I've used cc_cleaner before. I have only run it recently after experiencing the BSOD problem. So the issue existed before and after running cc_cleaner.
Yes, I ran the NIS2009 removal tool prior to reinstalling it.
The version of NIS 2009 was firstly from a disc and then subsequently, following the BSOD issue, I downloaded the lastest version (don't remember off hand which one) from symantec web site and used that, with the same effect. Both were updated following the installation using the auto-update feature within NIS2009.
Cheers

Yup my old version was 16.0.0.125 when the problem started, i updated it to 16.2.0.7 and still no effect.
So, it seems like some bug in norton, and it only happens while shutting down or rebooting the comp.
Dats y i didn't bother to ask abt it on forum, but now simon has mentioned it i also joined the heating discussion :)

Hi Simon,
Confirm whether you are getting just IRQL_NOT_LESS or is it Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS?
Here is a screenshot of similar error:
Note the complete "Stop 0X..............." code -Verbatim. Note any driver/file name which caused this issue, in the above example it Ntfs.SYS. Also, note down the Address mentioned there. Reply back with the code, address and file/driver name from the error you get.

Thanks Yogesh,
I'll give it a go, probably on the weekend when I have a little time to revisit this issue.
The bluescreen is usually very fast, I've only been able to see the blue screen message once.
And yes it was an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message rather than a driver....etc
Cheers

Simon_652, since the blue screen is fast, you may wish to disable the automatically restart option. Go to System Properties:Advanced:Startup and Recovery:Settings->System Failure:Automatically restart and disable that option. You may have to reboot after changing that option. Once the option has been changed, the next time you get a BSOD, the description should remain on the screen for you to see.

I've now had a chance to reinstall NIS2009 a few more times. Turned off automatic restart on error.
The error message is definitely
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
0x00000810, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804E8461
There were no driver names listed with the message.
After unplugging my CD and floppy drives the error number changed to;
0x00000010, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x805069B1
I also now have boot log files and a memory dump.
But not sure what use these are.
Cheers
