yesterday my NIS 2010 did not appear in the tray icons; at the same time Avira recognised and deleted TR/crypt.xpack.exe on the camera SD card. I tried to open the NIS from the desktop - did not work. Ran the full scan by Avira - looks good. This morning NIS 2010 full scan was pre-scheduled and actually ran (from the background?) - some cookies, but nothing serious. Still can not open NIS to see if it has been up-to-date, and when trying to open Norton File Insight - Erroe comes up "Problen detected: Unable to launch.
I do have Avira on the same computer; for couple years they lived together fine. Started blocking each other? I disabled Avira for a minute, but NIS wouldn't open anyway.
Should I maybe reinstall NIS or... is there a trojan threat and a major cleanup needed?

You have 2 realtime products?? Avira and Norton
And the Norton Systray icon not appearing and not being able to bring up the UI, while Norton is still running in the background, may be the "Timing issue" that Symantec released a fix for.

did the fix; NIS appeared as normal and up-to-date.
Thank you, Quad![]()

oops, the tray icon disappeared again! Was there at noon, but in the aftrenoon - disappeared... Who knows, what is it doing in the background. The second attempt to do the "hot fix" did not do any good, because, obviousely, "it has been already installed".
Suddenly out from nowhere the NIS frame wit "AutoFix" appeared. Has never seen it before - is it legit? Checked everything as "not fixed" and "detected an internal problem with a Nortion product feature", requestng several restarts and downloads: "Step1: Restart your computer.. Step2: Save your product key" Step3: Download and run the Norton removal tool... Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you will be provided the instructions on how to reinstall your Norton product"...
Hey, I am just a user here, and because I can not see my real Norton box or its tray icon, I have no idea - who to trust? What is going on here?..... please advise....
... Looks a little confusing in this topic, so I have opened a new thread... Kudos to everybody who can answer!

Did you try the uninstallation as suggested by the Auto-fix? I confirm that the AutoFix is genuine.
