We have three new Windows 7 computers and installed NIS 2011 on all three. Two are running just fine. The third lost all connectivity to the network. So we uninstalled Norton, it then connected fine. We ran the Norton removal tool then tried reinstalling. Same problem, no internet connection. So we uninstalled and the connection issue was again resolved.
The differences between the computers are minor. We did use migwiz to transfer profiles from three XP machines that were retired so each had somewhat different information loaded into the profile. Otherwise they are identical.
We'd like to get NIS 2011 running on the third machine but have run out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Have you checked in the router settings to see if each machine is identified correctly? Do the other machines see anything differently in the network security map? Do they see the third computer in the network maps?

Hello
Did perhaps the 3rd new computer come with a pre installed security program which was overlooked and not properly removed before installing NIS 2011 on that computer?

Thanks for the suggestion. It isn't a preinstalled AV as we had to reinstall the OS and did so from an Windows OS disk. Any other ideas?

Hello CMITWexford
Are these new computers or computers where you updated to Win 7? If they are brand new computers, why did you have to reinstall the O/S?

Hi CMITWexford,
Run the Windows Network Diagnostic Framework. This should pinpoint the issue and provide you with a solution.

Hi, I did a reinstall because they shipped with IE9, client uses a service that won't work with any thing except IE7 or IE8. I had disks from a similar computer that shipped before IE9 came out. Used those disks with the clients new license number to downgrade IE. Not an elegant solution but it worked.

Finally found it, it was an incomplete uninstall of MS Security Essentials which was installed as a temporary solution while we straightened out the licensing issues with Norton. Seems to be working now, except the Printer Sharing doesn't work. Eventually found a work around for that too.

There have been previous reports of blocked connectivity that was the result of running MSE and Norton together. It seems to be a common issue arising from this combination.
