I bought and installed NIS2011. Currently in the help/About it shows build 19.2.0.10 which seems to be the latest build when people refer to NIS2012. My GUI matches screenshots given for NIS2012 - I don't scrutinize the UI closely very often, thankfully, so unless a change were really drastic I wouldn't notice. I have Automatic Download of New Version turned off (want to make those choices for myself if possible). Nowhere does it say 2011 or 2012. So what I'm wondering is, are there still separate year-dated versions or is it all the same now and you just know how up-to-date you are by the build number? If there are changes to the program for the 2012 version, could someone kindly point me to a page describing them? Is there some easy way to tell which you have?

Hi
Goto Support->Check for new Version
If any Product Update is available for the Norton in your Computer, then you will get the message a Product Update is available.
If you are having the Latest version, then you'll get the message your Product is Upto Date.

Hi & thanks for reply. Is there a page describing the differences between NIS2011 & NIS2012? If so, I would very much appreciate a link to it or an idea of where to find it. Since I do have Version Update turned off, and my purchase receipt definitely says I bought NIS2011, how then can I have build 19.2.0.10 withOUT having NIS2012? Edit: I checked and the Version Check says I have the latest version - 2012. I don't understand how that happened...I'm not unhappy with it or anything, just wondering how it got updated when I had that function turned off.

Hi searcher54,
I found this post which may explain the differences.

Hi
Find below the new and Improved Features of NIS2012
Released on September 6, 2011, Norton Internet Security 2012 brought new features.[73] One of the new features that was included with the new program is Download Insight 2.0, which not only monitor files for safety but also the stability of a given file. That means that If a file is stable on Windows 7, but unstable on Windows XP, XP users will be notified for the instability of the file.
Also, integration with specialised removal tools is added, for better cleanup of already infected systems. A new smaller and more effective version of Norton power eraser is launched to assist in removal of fake antivirus software and other deeply-embedded threats that are otherwise hard to remove. A new tool called Norton Management helps manage different computers and devices equipped with Norton software from a single location.
Another feature added with this release is Sonar 4. Another welcome change is that identity Safe and Safe Web are finally compatible with Google Chrome and all the passwords and notes can be stored in the cloud should the user wish.
The user interface is also simplified with only 3 buttons. The 3rd button opens a more advanced and complicated UI, where the user is able to manage settings and access different product features. The CPU meter, a long-time supported and loved feature, that was removed from Norton 2011, also makes a return (only on the "advanced screen").
Combining the netbook and desktop line, Norton Internet Security integrates Bandwidth metering, which controls product's traffic usage and takes it down to minimum if necessary. This is ideal for networks with limited traffic. Also, the user interface window adjust accordingly to the size of the computer screen.
This version of Norton Internet Security includes several easter eggs. Pressing Shift+1, 2, 3 or 4 would change the theme to default background (plain black), ray, animals, and floral respectively. Also holding CTRL + WinKey + Alt while pressing "performance buton" to activate "Crazy Flip", which will make the window flip head over heels. The effect would continue until the main window is closed and reopened.
In addition, scans are no-longer scheduled through the Windows Task Scheduler, but through the Symantec's more advanced one, which waits for the user to stop using the keyboard and mouse (e.g. leaves the PC) and then performs tasks.
Can you Post a Screenshot of your Norton Internet Security Window?

Hi searcher54,
Version 19.2 is definitely Norton 2012. Did you download and install the product? If so, the download link had probably been changed to point to the current version, rather than last year's model.

Many thanks for all replies. Send, I think what you said is what happened. In Subash & Krusty's replies the features given for NIS2012 seem to be what I've always had, indicating that although the purchase I made shows 2011, the program actually was NIS2012. Seems strange to me that the About doesn't say NIS2012 but only gives what it says is a Version number, but if that's the worst problem I have all day it'll sure be a great day ![]()
Thanks, y'all
Edit: I don't know whose solution to accept - everyone helped. I will accept Send's as it explains my main question of how I got 2012 when I thought I should have 2011, but a way to spread out credit between all those deserving it instead of only being able to pick one, would be nice.

Hi
In Krusty's Post if you click on the link you can see the Norton Internet Security Main window/interface.If it is identical to your's then Voila, you have the 2012 Version.
