NIS2011 + Threatfire

Dear Users, I bet this matter has been discussed in the forum before, but had a hard time searching for it. Recently,

I "upgraded" to NIS2011 but I was told to remove ThreatFire. Did any user experience this. I

thought Symentec bought the maker of Threatfire and both should run without problems.

I do like to have TF installed in my computers as an additional security.

Threatfire is owned by Pc Tools which owns also Spyware doctor. Also it told me the samething as well,. It wanted me to uninstall Threatfire, Spywaredoctor. I guess this is Symanctecs way of saying those products(and im sure other ones) aren't compatibly with each other or they just want you to use their products. Could be 1 or the other or both. Also its just like when Threatfire tells you that you have no antivirus and firewall installed when really you know you do. I think that's their way of trying to get you to use their products. Or how Spybot warns you if you have Adaware installed

Anyway its no big deal. You can use the products together.

Are you using TF + NIS2011? ....I have not tried installing TF after NIS2011 installation. I am using Superantispyware and Malwarebytes too....I thought using TF as another arsenal.

Hi Sea_Monster,

Though Symantec took over PC Tools that does not mean that these products should be running side by side on the same computer.

There should never be more than one real-time security software installed on the same computer and this is true whether they are made by the same company or not. The only exception to this rule is if two product have absolutely no overlapping protection but that is rare, particularly with security software.

By the same token, the same thing would be said about not running NIS and NAV together on the same computer and they are both and always have been native Symantec products.

Thank you for your email. TF + NIS has been in friendly terms for the past few years....and I did not experience any problems whatsoever.

Sure, using 2 real-time security products is a NO NO, but I thought since TF and NIS was in friendly terms before, they should be friends again....maybe I was wrong.

Anyway, I thought I asked....since there are many users who are using TF with NIS and if they have problems.

Yeah....maybe I will have to break their marriaged apart. So sad!!

Of course, i could still use TF without real-time. But why? I have Superantispyware and Malwarebytes (both without realtime).

yes i am. threatfire + nis 2011 + malwarebytes + spywaredoctor(newest) + Peerblock all running real time and no problems at all. thats why i dont understand why they say it causes problems. maybe it does but not with me. i guess others wiill say its wrong or not right but with no conflicts and all of them use less resources t together then what firefox does alone.

Hi Sea_Monster,

With the fact that NIS 2011 explicitly requested removal of Threatfire I would suspect that there is now enough overlap that it flagged this specifically as a potential issue.

If you have SAS and MBAM on-demand free version, alongside NIS I think you have a very good arsenal of tools with which to check your system.
