NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

[ Edited ]

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with NIS2012. I notice only today that my NIS2012 crashes every time I try to change the Access of program entries under Program Control in the firewall. I have lots of program entries in the firewall list already. If I remove an old entry, no problem. If I add a new program entry and edit its Access or edit the Access of an existing program entry, the NIS2012 crashes. By crashing, I mean the firewall page greys out and Windows pops this message about closing the problem software. The NIS icon disappears from the tray. A red Norton repair window pops up, and I can see it trying to fix the problem to no avail. At this point, I have to reboot the system to be able to activate NIS2012 again. I used the NIS icon to check for new version. The Norton Update Center says I have the latest. My Metered Broadband Mode is always set to OFF, so I think my NIS2012 ought to be updated all the time. What can I do to fix this problem? Please help.

Try to Uninstall Norton Using NRT (www.norton.com/nrt)Before Uninstalling Norton Please Back up Your Identity Safe Data

Go To Settings->Web Settings->Identity Safe->Export Data and Back up the Data and Please do Run Check Disk

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

I reinstalled NIS2012. So far, new program entries and editing of their access do not cause the NIS2012 to crash. But then, the firewall list is almost empty at this time, and I have to re-enter the programs. I wonder if an existing glitch will produce the same problem again, or there was just a corrupt file in my old setup. Guess I will find out in time.

NOT SOLVED. NOT SOLVED. NOT SOLVED.

Just 10 days after I REINSTALLED the NIS, it's happening AGAIN!

Is there a limit to the number of entries in the firewall listing?

I suppose I have to REINSTALL this THING again?

This is getting to be a BIG BIG PAIN.

Hi jmason,

Are you allowing Norton to create the program entries in Automatic Program Control mode and then modifying the entries?

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

Also did you wait without clicking anything after saving the rule? Sometimes, Windows will think the program is not responding and try to end it when in fact the program is simply busy. Don't click anything after you press save.

Yes, but I also manually add entries.

Yes, I waited.

No, I don't click on anything before NIS goes back to the firewall listing page, of course. Everything has to wait for the main security program.
