Re: Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working and was closed

it just happened again and i believe i have caused both instances. i have xpsp3,ie8,nis2012. after clicking on desktop nis icon norton seems to load slow.  after thinking nis was loaded, i clicked on run live update.  the 6 tiles/icons at bottom of nis were not loaded yet causing the service framework error.  norton does not work after this-must reboot. this could be a big problem if it starts happening alot because after you click the don't send notice from microsoft, i can see people not realizing norton is not working. thanks

Re: Norton Internet Security Firewall Bugs and Flaws That DO NOT Get Fixed

[ Edited ]

I for one am getting very tired of waiting for Norton by Symantec to fix an issue that many have complained about. I've been using their software for at least 10 yrs, and just recently I started looking for another AV/FW. I am also prepared to make statements of my experience (along with all links to this evidence) to Consumer Affairs, BBB, RipOffReports, and any others that want to hear the complaints.

The problem is that NIS2012 is only allowing up to 100 files to be blocked by the Network in their Program Control. Once you hit over that 100 and you try to access the Program Control it causes the framework to CRASH.

The next problem is that if we do our best to keep that under 100 (which we shouldn't have to)  "depending" on your setttings/options for NIS- it itself adds programs to the program control list (which it should) and this can EASILY bring you over 100.

It has been MONTHS and nothing has been done to fix this issue. I've been on with their Techs REMOTELY over 3 times and each time they say to MANUALLY remove all Norton Files, Run the Norton Removal Tool, and Re-install. They have done this themselves several times for me and EACH TIME the problem is NOT fixed. THEIR OWN SUPPORT doesn't even know there is a problem (sure seems that way).

It almost is like they are doing this on purpose -- they do NOT want us to have the control over what programs can and cannot access the net. Sounds like they are in bed with the RIAA, MPAA, MS, Adobe, and more!

I am going to post links and I ask that anyone whom reads this CHECKS their own program to see if they can access their Program Control Settings AFTER you have 100 added to the list. IF you have an issue after you hit that 100 mark will you PLEASE support the majority of us whom complained here? You can do this by calling, writing, and making yourself heard on the public access sites that matter.

And please do not patronize me on this post because I am just simply FED UP!  Please feel free to pass this on to all the minions that matter at Symantec.

Re: Norton Internet Security Firewall Bugs and Flaws That DO NOT Get Fixed

The usefulness of this very long thread is that it can serve as evidence of the users' bad experiences with well-known Symantec/Norton products, their frustrations with Symantec/Norton's product design and after-sales support, and the false product reviews in printed and Web publications. I am sure it wouldn't be difficult for many of us here to suspect that those positive reviews have been writtten by either total idiots or drumbeaters in the company's pocket.

Those of you who would like their criticisms heard more broadly can start posting links to this thread in all the information media that you have access to. Let the world see reviews from real-life users of Symantec/Norton products. Let the world know our pains.

Some of you might also want to duplicate or keep copies of this thread, in case it "accidentally" disappears overnight.

Re: Norton Internet Security Firewall Bugs and Flaws That DO NOT Get Fixed

You know, it just occurred to me.  They're very likely too close to 2013 Beta and too busy with that release to deal with this.

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

From a NIS 2012 perspective, what version are we using?  I didn't re-read all of the thred but scanned several pages with reports and didn't see allot of version reports.  The reason I ask.....

I just installed NIS 2012 in a VM.  Now that's basic hardware but if the issue is program rules capacity it should suffice for a test bed.  I randomly added several programs to the rules list.  I'm currently at 122.  Note to Symantec, please display a count on this dialog!!!

The version is 19.6.2.10

I'll let it run overnight and add more rules as time permits over the next few days.  Now technically speaking, manually adding these .exe's with default settings doesn't touch all the areas that might be impacted for rules added in other ways - either automatically by NIS or custom rules with something other than default settings.  But it's a start.

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

I am running Norton version 19.6.2.0 on a Windows 7 (x86) computer.

I have also the problem that NIS2012 is crashing and wants to access the firewall settings for program control.
