No I am not a lawyer. I am a realist. When I purchase a product with my Hard Earned Money I expect said product to do what it says it does. If not, I would expect to be treated in a fair manner.

You are a lawyer and you have read the license agreement you accepted when you purchased your subscription? If so it might make an interesting case.
I'm sure you and others will be treated in a fair way but the concept of suing is a non starter for most software, not just Norton, since the EULA always has an escape clause. Not to say it's enforceable but let's not get into legal discussions here since that is one thing that Norton moderators will stomp on since the Terms and Conditons do rule it out for the Forums.
If you think about it, Norton has no interest in not solving the problem since its continuance does no-one any good. ButI know from a long experience both with computers and with other hi-tech materiial that the number of variables that need to be checked when something goes wrong, and especially when it is going wrong on PCs not under your own control, is bewildering and it's beyond my how anything works at all!
Norton Staff have posted on this so they are not ignoring the situation.

OK, enough said then. That is all I wanted to know.
"I'm sure you and others will be treated in a fair way..."
So then ver2013 has the same limitation? But it's still in Beta right?

Hello gwm,
We're not ignoring you (or anyone in this thread). I've send you a few detailed responses previously and our commitment to fix this hasn't changed. It's still being worked on for the 2012 products, and it a little more complex then just a few minor code changes. I understand your frustration with this, and I promise you that we'll do everything that we can to resolve this for you and everyone else that had the issue.

All,
Just a reminder that the forums are not a legal venue - discussion regarding any legal matters is not allowed on these forums (forum admins don't make this rule, our legal team does).
Participation Guidelines and Terms of Service.
Please avoid discussion regarding legal matters on these forums.
I have a personal commitment to all of you to resolve this issue, and honestly would hate to distract everyone from my genuine interest in resolving this poor customer experience by having to remove said threads and appear like I'm trying to hide your opinions - just because I have a requirement to enforce our rules here. Please help us not go down that dark road. ![]()

Due to my dedication to this software for over a decade I have extended my patience, but it is growing thin. I do check this thread often because I am hopeful the Admin will post an alert that this issue has been fixed.
For those just learning about this issue and want to know how to fix it -- it is not possible. An uninstall-reinstall will NOT fix it. What it WILL do is also remove all of your preset program rules as there is no way to backup these rules. -- Those that have concerns about their program control settings should be sure to consider this before taking the advice (or remote control help) from technical support.
Posting your questions to get support is one thing, but posting complaints to put Symantec in their place is a waste of time here. You can however post your experience on major review sites, social networks and blogs.

Hi EvilMishMash,
You have my word that as soon as this issue is fixed, I will post here (quicker than I've ever posted in any thread before). I definitely understand your patience is growing thin, and I don't blame you one bit. I wish I could let you all in on the progress we've made and everything that is going on behind the scenes to work on this issue - I just can't due to the confidential nature and all that jazz.

Hi Folks,
I know many of you are frustrated with this issue but I truly hope you will hang in there because when Tim says this is a complex issue I fully believe that it is in fact a much more difficult issue than it might seem to be on the surface.
I have personally met Tim and quite a few others from Symantec and my honest and firm opinion is that they are in fact taking this problem very seriously and are working overtime to correct it.
All the best,
Allen

Similar to others, as soon as I hit 'Add' in the firewall's 'Program Rules' the program seems to crash (i.e. Tray Icon and all controls vanish, and only a reboot restores). OS is Windows XP SP3.
Two questions:
Windows Security Center Service has disappeared, making it impossible to access the Windows firewall, etc. I don't particularly care, because Norton better than MS. Is it likely that it's NIS that has disabled, in some way, or removed the Window's Security Center Service? (Your answer will help as and when other issues arise.)
Second. When the Add button is hit and NIS seems to crash, are NIS security features still functioning fully?
Thanks

I believe Symantec Framework crashes (which a reboot fixes) because when I just added a Dell program I clicked (was automatically put under program control with a rule) The crash brings a reboot downloading new IPS defs to check the new program out as well as other items , as well as 4 other Live Updates including new virus defs.....makes sense in a way. I'm sure Norton is working to resolve this issue, though it's seems to be only a nuisance at the moment, time consuming..............Best.....Gorpy1
