Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

I wouldn't have it any other way-- doing my own research.  I am glad you noted the certification so that others will clearly see two have failed.

Hanging in there.

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

You say that you won't have to buy a new license/subscription, but if the program hasn't worked correctly since Nov 2011, when we finally get 2013 products in store, approx Sept/Oct, we have 1-3 months left on most peoples subscription.  Is Norton giving us all another full year, because if not WE WILL have to buy a new subscription, so in essence they are forcing us to because our current subscriptions will expire.

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

TS007,

None of us volunteers here -- everyone other than those with names in red -- can answer your question on what Norton will do about subscription time that those with this problem regard as lost.

I doubt that even the Norton Staffers here can say either since it's a financial matter outside their control.

It does absolutely no good for anyone (I'm not directing any of this specifically to you or anyone else) to threaten or suggest legal action (a) because legal matters are not permitted here and (b) if you read the small print of any EULA for any software ..... need I say more?

What I can say with the conviction of experience here is that I have never seen Norton do other than the right thing in favor of their customers  .... if you have seen the feedback from users with subscription problems that we refer to Customer Support time and again you will have read that XX days was added to their subscription as a gesture of goodwill.

I've had personal contact with many of the Norton people working on the programs who are active here in the forums as well and if one of them says that Norton has a team working on this then they certainly have.

It's an infuriating situation for the users who are affected and for Norton too so it is in their self interest to fix it but trying to pin them down to when and how is more destructive than helpful.

Just my FWIW ....

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

This has been going on for about 8 months.

If anyone TRULY believes this problem will be fixed in the current version, then me send a PM. I have a few bridges to sell.

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

Is there a big drawback in downgrading to NIS 2011, in terms of program security, features. etc.?  Does the process preserve firewall rules?  Yes, it's a giant hassle we shouldn't have to do.

It seems to me at this point that the best course might be to downgrade, use up the rest of one's subscription time, then when it runs out decide whether or not to give Symantec more money for another year - based on their response to this problem up to now and any future response.

In my case, I haven't noticed any significant lost of security features by using NIS2011 again. As I said before, I was quite happy with Norton's NIS2010 and NIS2011, until NIS2012 came by. You can just pretend that NIS2012 never happened.

If I remember it correctly, when you remove NIS2012 and install NIS2011, you will lose the existing firewall rules. It will be a fresh start, but you shouldn't be experiencing the notorious crash with NIS2011 as you do with NIS2012.

Re: NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

[ Edited ]

The 2013 version is coming in less than half a year and I have been half a year facing this problem and even more.
Why don't they tell us what is taking so long?
Since I used the 360 v.5, I alway faced issues fot example the toolbar in firefox did not show until someone told us to change a notepad file but then with new updates it did not work.
Now I am facing the firewall rules issue that is very Important for me!
Why does Symantec have issues I did not find in another security suite like AVG (but I know Norton is better and this is why I use it).
Finally, I have troubles choosing the anti virus suite I should use with the 2013 versions because Norton has these issues, friends are telling me "every one think that norton is the best but it is absolutely not" which I don't agree (look at pcworld.com) but in this second site av-comparatives.org)  Kaspersky is very recommended plus it's this Russian firm which found the flame virus that was supposed to be created by the US (symantec's firm founders but I know it is not related :p )or Israel. Some friends recommend bitdefender (excellent results in virus bulletin) but the majority kaspersky.

What should I do? ALWAYS face issues with norton or move after 3 years to another one (kaspersky)???

"What should I do? ALWAYS face issues with Norton or move after 3 years to another one (kaspersky)??? "

Norton cares most about the ignorant users--The users that just let the program cruise on automatic.  That is Norton's "Bread & Butter".  We (Those who want to have control over their privacy) are the "Questionable" people.  We are the ones that "must be doing something that isn't entirely legal".  Remember this is the brave new world in which if you have nothing to hide then you are an OK person.  If you want any customized privacy...

..Then you must be "Up to Something".

THAT is the bottom line.
