Hi everyone
I think I have managed to cure the problem. I used windows regedit to locate any delete the stray leftovers from Trend and everything appears to run now without any problems.
Thank you all for your valued help.

George
HI George,
I am also happy that you have this resolved now. However please be very careful about manually modifying the Windows registry as it is very easy to delete or modify the wrong thing and make your computer unbootable. If you find you must do this in the future, be sure to create a system restore point first.
I am a little confused on the part about Trend Internet Security 2010 because earlier you stated you had that so Bombastus provided a link to a removal tool for that and then you were not sure if you had this product after all. I am sure it would not have done any harm to have run this tool as it is designed to only remove things related to that one product. If you did not have the product it should not harm anything. Just an FYI.
The main thing is that things are working for you now.
Best wishes.
Allen
