After the NIS 19.6.1.8 update was installed the Network Map started to behave strangely. The map will no longer remember a device name or category name that I enter manually. The strange thing is that it doesn’t forget the names immediately. I can take 30 minutes. This issue only seems to affect new devices that were not on the map prior to the update. I have two computers with NIS12 and this is happening on both of them.

Hi Car825,
Have you tried to purge the Network Security Map data completely and tried to configure it again.
Open Norton -> Click on Settings -> Click on Network -> Click on Network Security Settings -> Click on the purge option right next to the Network Security Map.
Once done try to reconfigure the Network security Map again and see if it fixes the problem.
Please let us know if the issues were fixed.

I tried purging the map. It didn’t fix the problem. This issue should be easy for you to duplicate, assuming it’s not just happening my two PCs. Just make a new device to show up on the Network Security Map; one that wasn’t there before the update. Change the device name and category and see if it remembers it an hour later.

It would be helpful to know what OS you are running for someone to try to reproduce. XP? Vista? 7?

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on both of my systems.

Has anybody else had this problem?

I don't mean to keep repeating myself, but this is an important feature to me. Can anyone duplicate the problem? It's happening to both my systems so I don't think it's just me. If no one can duplicate it then it may not get fixed.

Could you please clarify whether you tried to duplicate my problem by (1) adding a new device to your Network Security Map; one that wasn’t on the map before the 19.6.1.8 update and (2) changing the device's name and category and seeing if it remembers the changes an hour later.

Sorry, but I can't. I don't have any new devices to connect that weren't already there.
