Hi, I have just bought a new computer (Vista) with a 60 day free trial of NIS. I have been using Norton system works for a long time and would like to install it also. Is this a problem?
Thanks

All the NSW 2009 products are compatible with NIS 2009.
If you have NSW 2008 standard edition or premier edition and a current subscription, you will be able to get a free upgrade from upgrades.
If you have NSW 2009 basic edition and a current subscription, there is no upgrade, but you can install it and run Live Update from within the NSW console and the updates will make NSW compatible with NIS 2009 (as long as NIS 2009 is on your computer).

You have NIS 2008. You can upgrade that, also, at the same site as long as you have an active subscription. Upgrade NIS first. Then after installation and reboot, upgrade NSW.
Good luck

Since you are prepared to [buy an] upgrade to NSW why not look at the combined package of NIS 2009 and NSW Basic V12 (V12=2009)? Note that Basic is the version of NSW to go for if you re going to use it with NIS or NAV to avaoid conflicts.
Then when your NIS2008 subscription runs out while upgraded to NIS2009 and it stops working you can use the NIS2009 KEY from the combined package to keep NIS2009 running for a year from that date. Both NIS and NSW in that package are for use on up to 3 PCs although the details of NSW do not actually say this -- it has been confirmed here by Symantec.
As an existing user of a product you can probably get a mail in rebate of $20 - $30 from Symantec and you might also spot descounts if you look at reputable internet outlets and the weekend store flyers. Just make sure you are getting the latest versions and that they are 3 PC versions.

You could Upgrade with the instructions below; if you do do this, just remember that there will probably be Issues with N.SW. 2006, i.e. it may report no Anti-Virus Software installed when you install N.I.S. 2009, however, you should not worry as N.I.S. 2009 will be Installed, if you are going to Upgrade for free until you N.I.S. 2008 Subscription Expires.
Upgrading instructions for Norton 2006 Products and Later:
01. Select your Product and Version, from the Web Link (above).
02. Save the Download on your Desktop.
03. Save your Product Key (www.mynortonaccount.com).04. Dis-connect from the Internet.
05. Go to Add/Remove.
06. Locate "Norton Internet Security (Symantec Corporation)" and click on "Remove".
07. Follow the instrctions and, when asked to, re-start your computer.
08. Locate to Add/Remove upon start-up.
09. Click on LiveUpdate and "Remove" and any other LiveUpdate.
10. If requested, re-start your computer.
11. Double-click on the Saved N.I.S./N.AV. File on your Desktop.
12. Follow the instructions.
13. Open Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus and "Run [Norton] LiveUpdate" manually.
14. It is now Safe to Connect to the Internet again.
15. If you notice things not running right with N.I.S. 2009/N.AV. 2009, it may be a bug; please Post them here [in the Forum].
16. If you have Other Norton Products, then you can re-install LiveUpdate, or, if you have Used the N.R.T., you can re-install your Other Norton Product(s); if you do not have the Disc, then you can re-download it via the Trailware. Norton SystemWorks users have had a "Patch" Released so that Updates are received through Norton LiveUpdate, i.e. your Norton Internet Security 2009 Product.
17. If you have problems un-installing/installing, then use the Norton Removal Tool.

Note that Basic is the version of NSW to go for if you re going to use it with NIS or NAV to avaoid conflicts.
They all work now. I have them on my three home computers. The conflicts were all fixed in the various NSW 2009 versions.

I thought the conflict was between both having NAV except for Basic. I don't see any purpose in buying more than Basic if you are going to have NAV either on its own or as part of NIS.
And the package offered of NIS is with NSW Basic.

Thanks everyone...I bought both NSW and NIS 2009. everything seems to be working fine.
Thanks again for the advice.

I agree with you, but neither of us knows whether or not the poster wants NSW Premiere, which comes with Save & Restore. If he does, and if he already has a subscription to that version of NSW 2008, he gets a free upgrade to NSW 2009 PE.
Moreover, we aren't ONLY writing to the poster, but to anyone who seeks information here. And some posters have already said they have subscriptions to NSW Standard Edition 2008. They should know they can get a free NSW Standard Edition 2009, but not a NSW BE 2009 (silly, isn't it?).
