If you feel that I have helped solve your problem, please mark my first post in this thread as "solution" so that it might help others.

Kudos is always appreciated, but not required.

Cheers!

It's not generally accepted on these forums that any poster request their post get a solution mark, or a kudo for that matter.  Mostly, we ask the original poster of the problem determine which post, if any, most led him or her to their solution.  What we like to do is kind of watch out for each other and if we see this closure being missed, then we step in and point out this forum procedure ourselves.

If you browse a little bit, you will see that the usual case is that Poster A will post a fine solution, that Poster B will mention our forum etiquette of indicating solutions, and that Poster C will give a Kudo to some post he thinks deserves one.  It's hard to avoid self-promotion, and we all slip a bit (some more than others), but one of the things that make this a special place is that we really do work hard to be a team.

Re: New patch STILL has ccSvcHst.exe CPU hog problem !

And yes I spoke too soon.

Did a system restart today for the first time in 5 days and guess what ? The ccSvcHst.exe is hogging 50% of the CPU again.

From browsing the internet and indeed just looking at this Forum, it's obvious that this is an ongoing problem for many people. Can Symantec PLEASE fix this, because I'm rapidly reaching a point where if I uninstall NIS 2010 again, I won't be reinstalling it but rather using another rival security program.

Hi Gorbag:

Please tell me about your computer's configuration, including the OS.

If you look at the Task Manager, how many instances off ccsvchst.exe do you have?

Thanks.

Are you running any other security programs, and if so, which ones?

Re: New patch STILL has ccSvcHst.exe CPU hog problem !

It's really good of you guys to offer to help but I've been through all these procedures so many times it's done my head in : -

   - a total of 24 uninstalls/removal tool/reinstalls

   - a total of 12 mind-numbing hours with online support

   - a registry clean-up every time

   - a plethora of advice, hassle and wasted effort.

The fact is I've got a standard Vista 32-bit system, all up to date and reasonably well maintained. I've NEVER had this kind of trouble before and if I'm confronted with a scenario where every time I reboot, my CPU is burnt up, well that's just no good to me. And I can see from this Forum and the wider internet that this is not an isolated problem, whatever Symantec support try and tell me.

So for the time being I'm going to use Avast and ZoneAlarm, until NIS 2010 is patched properly. Then I'll try again.

Hi Gorbag:

I realize that you have done quite a bit, no question.

However, I would really like to work with you to resolve this issue.

Are you *sure* that this is the way you wish to go? It must be something weird.

As stated in a previous post, are you running any other AV/Firewall software? How about Multimedia software?

Thought I'd try yet AGAIN after a few days. Uninstalled all previous AV/Firewall software, ain't running any multimedia stuff - I just have a standard Vista Home Premium 32-bit system, which has run NIS for years.

But upon installing NIS 2010 once more, updating and then re-starting, "ccSvcHst.exe" screws up the CPU, using 50% and rising. Can SOMEBODY in Symantec please stop being in denial and FIX this ? It's obvious many people have the problem and it's NOT being properly addressed !

Hi Gorbag,

An experiment:  Try turning off Norton Product Tamper Protection.  See this thread for a problem similar to yours that seems to have been related to this function:
