Norton 2011 Usb modem problem

hi my problem started after i installed nis 2011 i cant connect to internet why this happens any ideas?how can i solve it?

To rule out modem failure, can you connect your computer to the net via another source like using the ethernet cable or wifi.

There is also some kind of a peculiarity in Windows recently, possibly due to one of the updates, to do with autoplay settings. I could not get a perfectly functional webcam to work until I unplugged it, and then plugged it in again while holding down the shift key. This apparently will allow certain devices that are activated by other software applications to run.
