Here's a new one......... Norton ignored my comand to restart anti spam at system restart after I disabled it to fix the missing OE addon. In short, I started OE, there was no spam protection, I shut it down, opened NIS, turned off anti spam, selected turn it on again at system restart, restarted the pc, after reboot found NIS had not turned anti spam back on as commanded..... THIS IS B capital B..... S.....Capital S

Hi ya RAMOATS!
That's a new one on me too! I have however bitten the bullet and at long last got shot of NIS for good. I was tired of begging for help in the end and by god did we beg?! Oh well, at least I've saved myself from a nervous breakdown from all the stress!
I spent the afternoon preparing my machine and installing Kaspersky and actually I'm pleasantly surprised. At first glance it's features seemed somewhat spares, but when I looked under the bonnet I was blown away by it's wealth of features. Dare I say it makes NIS look like a child's toy by comparison.
Oh and this could be quite embarrassing.., I have a WORKING anti-spam tool at long last. It supports many different mail clients including Outlook Express.., yippee!! Here's a screen shot of it in action.. Nice Icons too, not that bug ugly yellow thing which looked so out of place, (when it worked that is)!
I guess we could probably mark this thread as Solved now?
Nice knowing you all, hopefully I'll be chatting to some of you over at Kaspersky sometime although hopefully not with a problem. ![]()

Anti-spam... whats that? Its been so long I forgot. Yes your right but lets see how you can handle support if you need it instead of getting ignored. You will be in shock.

How is the performance..... does it bring your system down as it scans incoming html based emails...... does it auto update right in the middle of a task and cause processor activity.....does it auto update at very bad times during tasks /???

Hi nmac,
Have you needed support from Kaspersky already? Will I be in shock because their service was good or bad?
Do tell...

While I understand that you're frustrated with the Norton AntiSpam situation, please refrain from discussing competitor products on this forum. Thanks.

Hi ramoats,
No...! No...! No....! No....! That was easy! ![]()
Okay so to be fair, I am still getting to grips with it at present and so I expect I will find something's will be a little different. I have noticed my machine runs quicker so that seems to suggest less of a burden on my processor. I have however noticed a slightly longer load time at startup but I can live with that if the rest of my day is not hampered with slow downs and annoying restarts just to get something to work.
Also un-installing NIS seems to have had some added bonuses which I wasn't expecting. One of which was a shutdown issue! Every few days or so and sometimes for several days in a row my machine would hang at shutdown. This is a problem which was supposed to have been fixed way back when Microsoft released an update to cure that problem. It would seem that this problem has now gone! ![]()
The Anti-Spam feature is working well too.., I had a Scam email today from someone claiming to be from Santandair Bank saying that my account was blocked and that I needed to follow the link and input my bank details, pin number etc.!!!!! Yeah right, and my name is Father Christmas, do people really fall for such ridiculous scams? Anyway, needless to say Kaspersky's anti-spam did a great job and moved it straight to my Norton Anti-Spam folder. Yes I know, I thought I would keep that for fun, Kaspersky allows you to assign any folder as you spam folder, it seemed quite fitting to use the left over Norton one, especially as it was only ever any good for putting rubbish into. ![]()
I'll keep you posted on my progress anyway! I have 30 days to decide if I like it or not, so far so good.

Oops!
Sorry Tony, still a bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone. It's what makes companies better.
I will refrain from posting any further comments, very sorry!

P.S I will be sending some of you my personal email address shortly so we can discuss things away from these forums.
All the best everyone! ![]()

Come on Symantec...I've read 10 pages of posts with no solution. I have about 80 days left with my subscription and have the same problem. I may disable the Anti-Spam and go with another antispam solution. I will however go with someone else in 80 days if Symantec does nothing. They are not the only product out there and will pay the ultimate price of customer loss if they don't fix this. That's the great thing about Captalism. Come on Tony...Impress all these customers with a solution.

Too Late...the word is out. You guys better fix this problem or lose customers. There is no good reason to have an issue go on for the length of time it has. Not trying to be harsh...just stating a fact.
