3 more days have elapsed and the work around fix still seems effective... all anti spam features seem normal...

I just noticed this thread, after having the same frustrating problem after upgrading to NIS 2012 last fall. I also have Outlook Express, and run it on Windows XP SP3. I, too, have been using the hit-or-miss solution since then, and vowed to not renew my subscription in August, after using some form of Norton (Antivirus, SystemWorks, NIS) since 1996.
Tony, thank you for posting this workaround. I just made the recommended changes (I needed to restart my system): the icon is showing, and nothing is greyed out, Like others, I'll monitor this for the next week, and then report back. Fingers are crossed!

Status report: it's been 5 full days of logging off/logging in, and starting Outlook Express, and Tony's fix still works. I'm encouraged! I'll report back on 5/17 (at one full week). Yay!!

I have also had this problem for months. It is killing my productivity. I use OE most of the time and that is where it disappears from. It has made me very disatisfied withNIS2012.

Hi everyone,
We now have a Knowledge Base Article for this issue, which includes instructions for the workaround:

Status report at the 1 week mark: NIS is still 'working' fine. I'll only report back if there is a problem. Thanks again, Tony!

Today for the first time the fix (client integration) didn't work - I restarted the computer, re-checked the boxes, and still no anti-spam button. I thought buying the new version would fix it, but alas I was wrong. Money down the drain. Do any other antivirus programs have an anti-spam button, so I could switch?
