Norton Antivirus 2010 Update Failed

from Norton AV 2009 Gaming Edition, i reinstalled Norton AV 2010 but it failed upon initial update.

btw, my system is Windows 7 x86.

here are the screenies:

Re: Norton Antivirus 2010 Update Failed

[ Edited ]

Hi

I am getting the exact same problem with Norton Internet Security 2010 on both my computers since today.  I get the failed update and even get the claim that my latest updates were 20 days ago.

What is going on?

Both computers have Windows Vista 32-bit SP2

That has been normal for me when installation finishes except it varies with when the original file was prepared. I don't remember it updating during installation whether with 2010 or 2009.

Are you saying that it installed OK but won't update when you click on Live Update? Or just that it finished installation like that?

I can't tell with the first post since after the first image the other ones have not been cleared yet by the moderators.

As the later post says it may be a fault with the server but it is working OK for me here in Florida now.

Where are you located?

Re: Norton Antivirus 2010 Update Failed

Glad you resolved it -- now I can see all the images I see more clearly. It  does happen with new installations that you have to run live update more than once because some updates cannot be downloaded the first time but I've not heard of it getting stuck as you show.

Re: Norton Antivirus 2010 Update Failed

I noticed this morning that Norton released a very large Virus definitions update (45MB).  Since then the problem I posted above has been resolved.

Re: Norton Antivirus 2010 Update Failed

Hi,

I've seen this problem once or twice before, it seems to be a bit of a messed up intallation (from the beginning). It seems as though somewhere along the line, the virus defs get corrupted or something similar - usually a manual intelligent updater fixes the problem.

problem also gets fixed when Norton LU re-downloads the entire virus def set - that would have been the 45MB.

Re: Norton Antivirus 2010 Update Failed

Glad its sorted out -- others have commented on the 45MB download. I don't think I got that but it may have done in the background since the machine was idle a lot.
