Hello garyt
Thank you....Kudos!!!
Why the different ISO for Retail versions and Online versions.
I thought product was the same either as a retail boxed product with CD or downloaded online.
I thought the Retail boxed product with CD had the Bootable Recovery Tool on the included CD.
I thought the download ISO was intended for online downloaded purchases without included CD.
The Retail purchase ISO annotates x86 ~ 32 bit
The Online purchase ISO does not annotate x86 / x64.
The previously offered links were all ~ recovery nis x86.ISO
Not sure if I should grab Retail ~ recovery nis x86.ISO or NBRTSOS.ISO. I have online purchase NIS upgraded to NIS10....
Regards and thanks

NBRTSOS.ISO is a Bootable Recovery Disk that requires an activation PIN rather than a product key. Activation PINs are provided if you got your Norton Product via an ISP.

The recovery_nis_x86.iso file from the link above is 2 MB bigger than the one I downloaded from one of the earlier links. And is was not corrupt as I burned it, and it ran fine. So they were not ALL corrupt. Just for some people.I doubt it. I burned the ISO file (size over 595 MB) and ran it in a reboot. It had the same problem as the 298MB ISO file, which was that it did not auto-fill the product key. After manually entering the key, the app returned an error msg saying the key is invalid.Did you really test your download all the way?Anyway, the filesize was incorrect. I threw the burned CD away.

I downloaded all of the .iso files and each one burned fine with Easy Media Creator 10 and booted properly. Each of the bootable CDs required a valid product key of the correct product type.

I editted my original message to include the fact that I entered my key manually. This failed. Now, my copy of NIS 2010 was a download purchase. TRhe manual key entry may have worked for you, but not me. The ISO from the liveupdate links above not only worked, but it auto-filled my key. None of my downloads from FTP worked.

Hi bjm_
The different ISOs are for licensing - the product is the same.
You are correct the Retail boxed product does have the Bootable Recovery Tool on the CD.
If you have online purchase NIS upgraded to NIS10....you should grab the "SOS" ISO
Please let me know if you have any problems.

The SOS iso asks for an activation PIN on booting from it rather than a product key. The help says that is for users who obtained their product via their ISP - could you clarify things?

Thanks a bazillion!!!
The designation (Retail) & (Online) had me thinking Retail boxed & Online download from Symantec.
I grabbed the NBRTSOS because I purchased NIS Online from Symantec. The concept that Online refers to an ISP never entered my mind. I even scratched my head and it still never entered my mind that Online refers to ISP. Thanks a bazillion X's 2. I'll go grab the Retail ISO. How silly of me not to understand that Online = ISP. I'll go stand in the corner now and feel silly. ![]()

Whilst I am happy to accept your plaudits I got the info from the help system on the SOS CD. Once I'd burned it and it asked for a PIN I sat back confused
tried an NIS product key which , naturally failed, so I consulted the help file and there was the answer. Aren't help files wonderful sometimes??
