Hi, now i have generated a big problem. I used the Norton uninstall tool and unistalled norton, then installed it again, ran a scan and all seemed fine. I the went to live update and it went through the process got to i think installing the update and crashed. When i restarted my laptop it kept crashing on startup at the point where it is loading up norton. I tried 4 or 5 times and the laptop wouldn't load up. I maybe had other options but the only one i could think of was to format it because i couldn't do anything else. That is now done, i am just downloading service pack 2 because i don't think i can put norton on before that!
Now do i install norton from my CD or how do i get to the download since i cannot get to it through norton unistall since i do not have one to unistall now.
Also, will it crash again when i go to live updates?

Install you Norton Product with your C.D.. If LiveUpdate crashes, do not re-start your computer; un-install then re-install LiveUpdate. If this () does not work, try the Solution (below).
How to un-install and re-install LiveUpdate
You need to un-install and re-install Symantec LiveUpdate.
Use Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel to un-install LiveUpdate. Download and run the LiveUpdate installer to install LiveUpdate again.

I would suggest using the N.R.T. twice and then trying again.
If all else fails, re-store your computer back to a time it was working fine - or even back to the brand-new condition if this fails, which means you will have to install everything again.

I have just formatted the hard drive and installed everything from scratch, just starting with the Norton CD now.
I did do this yesterday though and it will either crash during live update or during a quick scan when it gets to SecurityRisk.URLRedir.
Do you suggest that once i have installed the cd i do try and run the live update?
I am unable to restore it to a time it has worked because i have had this problem since i tried installing norton a week ago and the fact that i have just formatted the hard drive.

You should always Run LiveUpdate first before doing anything else because, chances are, you will be At Risk until you do so.
If this does not work, then get your whole system clean again [brand-new condtion] and then only install Norton; let us know what happens.

Here is what has happened,
Formatted computer - now all i have installed in windows xp software.
Installed Norton Internet Security 2008 - ran a quick scan all went fine.
Ran live update - Confirmed 24 updates installed - 2 failed.
The first that failed was "updates to symantic realtime storage protection files to version 10.2.2.6 - the install scrip was unable to launch a file it needed error 1812.
I tried to click on 'tech' and it completly froze, so didn't see the second it failed on.
Then i ran Live update again and it completed sucsessfully
Then ran a quick scan and it froze at SecurityRisk.URLRedir
Does this help at all to my problem?
And do i need to install the 'add on pack' from the cd?

If your scan is hanging on this type of infection, perhaps you might want to follow the Removal Instructions for SecurityRisk.URLRedir on the Symantec website.
Additionally, if you still thinkyour system is infected, I would recommend that you follow the steps listed in the How To Troubleshoot a Suspected Malware Infection announcement.
