Re: Norton ID Safe missing with Firefox 6 even after multiple Firefox/Norton removal/reinstalls

Hi Imacri ... quick note to let you know my problems are solved ... Umai noted that there were a couple of lines of code missing from my Firefox extensions.ini file ... adding those did the trick ... thanks for your assistance.

Posting the solution to this problem, so that other users may also get benefited.

In the Extensions.ini file present in this location,  %appdata%\ Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\SomeRandomeValue.default\extensions.ini file,

the following 2 entries should be present. If it is not present then, Norton toolbar will not be loaded in Firefox.

For NIS 2011,

Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_18.6.0.29\\IPSFFPlgn

Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_18.6.0.29\coFFPlgn_2011_7_1_3

For NIS 2012,

Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.1.0.28\IPSFFPlgn

Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.1.0.28\coFFPlgn

The numbers Extension1 and Extension2 will vary accordingly depending on the other addons present in your Firefox.

Thanks,

Umai

This is great news.  Congrats to both you and Umai for persisting and finally figuring this out.

I've posted a link to Umai's solution in randomname's thread Idenity Safe Says Not Active In Firefox  here to give it more exposure.  I'm sure this will be a big help to other people having the same problem.

Just a hint for others following this thread who are trying to find the correct extensions.ini file in Firefox.  Go to Help | Troubleshooting Information and click the Open Containing Folder button as shown in message # 14 of this thread to browse to the correct location of your default FF profile.

Now the bad news.  I see FileHippo posted Firefox 7 Beta 6 yesterday, so the "stable" release of Firefox 7 must just be around the corner. Oh, joy. :smileyvery-happy:
