Hello ,

since 3 month i have the problem that it is not possible to run a full system scan.

Whenever i start the scan , approximately after 60000 scanned files....norton completely "disappears"...(it ends work completely and i cant restart it anymore)

even the norton symbol in the taskbar is not there anymore.

I had this problem with norton 2010 and also now with the new installed NIS 2011.

What i did so far was to run NIS in windows safe mode...Now i get an error message :

Fehlgeschlagene Anwendung navw32.exe, Version 18.1.0.37, fehlgeschlagenes Modul dec_abi.dll, Version 2.1.1.8, Fehleradresse 0x000e18c3.

Well this is the german error message in my windows event display.

I guess  my problems are solved when i would reinstall windows XP...but this is really the last thing i would like to

do

I also didnt use the removable tool for Norton 2010 , cause it worked 3 month before and then for some reason full scan

is not possible anymore.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks much in advance

well...after clean installing windows xp it works again ( i had to do this either way) -:)

THomas1970, based upon what I could understand of your original post (sorry, I don't read German,) it looks like there was a file on your system that was causing NIS some problems to scan. Since you've cleaned the system the file is probably no longer present. If the problem does return, please look in the Norton/Symantec Errors section of your logs to see if any entries are present around the time of the crash and provide their information (contect-click on the entry and copy it to the clipboard and then from the clipboard into a message.) Also, if it occurs again you may wish to try disabling scanning of container files as a temporary workaround since the crash appears to have been related to that functionality.

Thanks Yaso for the help! Fortunately I could guess the text associated with the navw32.exe, 18.1.0.37, dec_abi.dll and 2.1.1.8 parts :)

Thanks much for the good support here  , whenever this happens i can go back here and look for my own thread

One last question , is it possible that the file which caused the crash is malware or could it be just any file ?!

I suspect that the file was a legitimate and safe file but can't be certain. If the problem starts occurring again, we can try to isolate the file and figure out what's going on.
