Hi Jim,
It should not cause a problem but I wish you had mentioned that before. ![]()
I should have asked also.
This does bring up one thing to check though. From Windows Explorer right click on the USB flash drive letter and select Properties. Then click the Hardware tab, then click Properties. On the next window click on the Policies tab.
Make sure the option to "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on the device IS checked. If you have write-caching enabled it may cause problems.
If that option is not currently checked, check it and do some more testing to see if the problem is still present.
Best wishes.

The option is checked.

Hi Jim,
Ok, let's reverse part of the scenario then. Log out of ID safe and unplug your USB flash drive. Then go into Web Settings and setup ID safe again. Select to store locally on the computer. After initial ID safe setup, then restore your ID safe data backed up earlier and verify all your logins are present.
Now you are at the same point as I described earlier where you can do testing on both profiles (local and portable on USB flash) to determine if the problem is specific to one or the other.
If you are willing to do this testing, it should tell us where the problem lies.
Best wishes.

I created a profile locally, then logged out and was able to choose from the local profile and the USB flash drive profile. I was able to log in to both.

Hi Jim,
Did you do any testing with computer shut downs?
The idea of having both profiles is to see if the inability to log into ID safe after a computer shut down occurs with only one or both profiles.
Thanks and best wishes.

Hi, Allen.
Yes, I did do the testing with computer shutdowns. First, I shut down the computer properly, and was able to log in to both profiles. Then, I shut down the computer improperly by hitting the power button and I was able to log in to both profiles successfully again. I can't seem to reproduce the problem.

Hi Jim,
Ok, thanks very much. You might just want to keep an eye on it for a while. It does no harm to have both profiles but just make sure you keep them in sync if you add any new logins.![]()
My belief is that something is happening with your normal portable profile on the USB flash and perhaps the problem might also only occur if you are actually logged into ID safe at the time of the computer shut down.
So if you haven't already you might want to do the testing as follows:
1. Log into your portable ID safe profile and while you are logged in do a few computer shut down tests and see if the problem occurs. If the problem occurs then check to see if your local profile is affected. If only the portable profile is affected then that tells us that the problem only happens when the ID safe profile is logged in.
2. Do the same computer shut down tests while logged into the local profile.
Assuming the problem returns at all I have a feeling you will find that the problem only ever occurs with the portable profile. Perhaps even a flaky USB flash drive.
Best wishes.
Allen
