Norton Insight Question

[ Edited ]

Hey guys,

I need a bit of help, with explaining why although I run Norton Insight (from its respective button), and although the Preferences are set to Trusted....when I go to the CPU Usage screen, at the bottom Ican see:

Background Jobs --------Last Run

Norton Insight                  Never

Thanks.

P.S. I have read the respective articles from the different threads, regarding NI, before posting...but still coudn't make it out!

Re: Norton Insight Question

01. What Version of N.I.S. 2009 are you Running?  Open Norton Product > ? Help & Support > About.

02. This Feature only Runs when your computer is Idle; it should say "10 Minutes" or something just below the graphs.  This means, N.I.S. will wait Ten Minutes - without touching the Mouse or typing - for your computer to go Idle before doing the Scan.

Hey guys...First of all thanks a lot for your quick response..

Well..its been running since Thursday night(NIS08 updated to NIS09)...I've done a few scans...Both Trusted and Full mode..

Version is 16.1.0.33

It run in idle mode(did a Quick Scan) this morning..but the NI obviously did not run..

I have scheduled scans enabled (every two days), and the idle scan for weekly...Idle time waiting is set to 10..

What has been Running "since Thursday night"?

And the Idle-Time Scan Feature is for Internet-Threat Detection.  That also applies to Scheduled Scans.

Re: Norton Insight Question

Floating_Red: The "Thursday night" running was the answer to Stu, who asked since when the NIS09 was installed.

What I can't figure out is this: Idle Time Scan settings on the main screen has the options of Off/Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly.  Mine is set to weekly.

Does that mean that only every week the IdleTime Scan will run?  If this is the case, then Norton Insight (NI)runs once a week, since we said that NI is enabled during the Idle scans.  Am I right to assume that?

This morning, when Norton runned the Idle Scan, NI shoud have been enabled, and hence I would have been able to confirm it in the CPU Usage screen(at the bottom table).  But the table says NI was NEVER runned.

So to check if it runs, I have to wait a week?...I'm asking that, cos since the last message I left the pc a couple of hours, without disturbing it at all, but the Idle Scan was not enabled.

I'm sure there is something I don't get right.....Or may be something is not running correctly in my NIS 09.

I would appreciate your help.

As far as I am aware, the Idle-Time Scan setting is only for Virus Detectionl; the Insight Scan should run whenever your computer is Idle.  Either it is actually running, with the numbers getting stuck, hence, why it is not changing, or it is not running at all.  I think it is the former... Hmmm...

OK, Floating _Red...I also saw your thread about the Idle-scanning...from a couple of months ago..

Idle-scan...what a practical mess of a good theoretical concept!!

Thanks man.

Re: Norton Insight Question

The idea is good and it is running great normally. Too many people are messing with the settings these days while they don't know what they are doing. But with you I guess there is just a install problem. You might want to try a reinstall.

Re: Norton Insight Question

So Stu...you agree that for the two times Idle Scan has run(yes, I had one more this morning--Both were Quick Idle scans), I should not have :  Norton Insight Scan------Never...

What about Zana's post....she has the same problem..

And Stu...at the main settings window, when I have set the Idle scan to weekly...why did it run 2ice in 48hrs?...Does this setting refers to Idle Scan Full mode?
