Hi All,
Firstly, is there a Netbook Edition for NIS2012?
And, secondly, if there is, where might I be able to download a standalone installer for it from?
I currently have NIS2011 Netbook Edition installed (which was upgraded to from NIS2010 Netbook Edition, and which I do have a standalone installer for), and I plan to upgrade when my subscription expires in about a month, but I'd like to have a standalone installer available (so that I can put it onto my NIS2010 Netbook Edition USB-stick) in case I need to reinstall my OS and apps at any time in the future.
However I can not find such an installer, or even any mention of NIS2012 Netbook Edition, anywhere on the Symantec/Norton site.
Thanks in advance,
Scott Hill.

Hi Scott,
Good news and bad. The good news is that there is now only one version of NIS2012. The bad news is that the netbook edition has been discontinued. You can download a copy of NIS2012 here: http://norton.com/nis12
and copy it to your stick before clicking on it to run it.
Hope this helps

Thanks Dick,
Erm...
'Bad' in what sense?
Does the new NIS2012 contain the Netbook friendly features (like the 'on battery' mode, reduced dialog sizes, etc)?

Only 'bad' in the sense that you will not be able to get the product you wanted and are being 'forced' to accept a newer, better product [tongue firmly in cheek]

Ok, thanks. :D
Presumably the Netbook features aren't enabled by default in 2012, right?
If so, what will I need to do to enable them?
Is it just a case of changing Settings->Misc->Netbook Mode to On?
Like in NIS2011 Netbook Edition?

Anyone?

Hi ScorpionOx7,
There is no longer any netbook edition, or any netbook-specific functionality in Norton 2012. This year's product is designed to work well on netbooks as well as larger PCs. You do not need to do anything special after installing. Also, if your netbook edition subscription is still valid, the product key can now be used to activate Norton 2012, even though it is not a netbook version.

Hi,
In the general section under performance monitoring there is a setting for low resource usage on battery power. That's about the only thing that is laptop/netbook/notebook computer related.
Be sure to read SOJ's message. Good advice.![]()
