Re: Norton Internet Security 2012 stops working.

Hi -

I also had problems with TortoiseSVN 1.7.8 [64 bit] and Norton Internet Security 2012 19.8.0.14 see thread in this forum:

  NIS 2012 WILL NOT COMPLETE Scans After 8/23/2012 5:21 AM Live Update

  <http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/NIS-2012-WILL-NOT-COMPLETE-Scans-Afte...>

I can report that uninstalling TortoiseSVN 1.7.8 appears to have solved the problem with NIS 2012.  Time and schedule have not permitted any attempts to see if the same problem occurs with TortoiseSVN 1.7.7 or if the problem is associated only with the 64 bit editions of TortoiseSVN  I've wasted many hours running down this problem that should have been applied to productive work!! ;(

I am pretty much convinced that the problem was introduced by the NIS "restart required" Automatic Live Update that was downloaded to my system on or about 8/23/2012 5:21 AM CDT. TortoiseSVN 1.7.8 was downloaded and I installed it approx. 8/20/2012  23:11 CDT.  No problems were noted with either TortoiseSVN or NIS 2012 until the NIS "restart required' update was performed 2012-08-23 7:49 CDT.  Immediately after that update NIS 2012 would no longer complete Quick or Full System scans and NIS 2012 started to incur  the unexpected terminations!

Of course, I don't consider the uninstallation of TortoiseSVN 1.7.8 to be a permanent solution to the problem and I really hope that the problem is addressed by Symantec and/or TortoiseSVN.  TortoiseSVN is very important to my work and I have depended on Norton AntiVirus Products for decades so I would really hate to have to make a choice! ;)

Re: Norton Internet Security 2012 stops working.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies. The problem is exactly related to TortoiseSvn and Norton. Now in the waiting time for the solution from TortoiseSvn or Norton, I have temporarily installed a free antivirus product. I hope that this issue will be fixed asap.

Best regards

Just a reminder for the future.

Remember to fully remove the free antivirus using the removal utility for that product before reinstalling your Norton product. This will eliminate conflicts between the two.
