First, I acknowledge that using 2005 might not be the best, but it works for me and my computer suffers no performance problems. I used 2007 but couldn't deal with the speed degredation. That said, when I upgraded to IE7 I lost my ability to configure my Anti Spam in 2005. I get a script error associated with the options.dll creating a page called option.htm. I've traced the problem to niscmnht.dll which for some unexplained reason doesn't validate IE7. IE6 and back but not IE7. A friend of mine went into chat with tech support and was told a fix was coming. I went into chat with tech support, and they deinstalled and reinstalled 2005 and made no mention of the niscmnht.dll (I figured out the issue after my chat session).
Anyway I have three questions that I hope someone can answer for me. Is Norton actually working on a fix for 2005 to recognise IE7 and if so, when. If not, does anyone know of anyone who has found this issue and modified niscmnht.dll to recognise IE 7. I love Norton products but don't like being bullied into an upgrade that doesn't work well for me and my situation.

The old versions of norton product's GUI was built on IE's HTML engine. In IE7 it was changed dramatically then the previous one, and that's the problem you get errors with it.
The 2007 version, as you mentioned was not the best update symantec done... But I think you should give a try for the 2009 version. It has a fully new GUI engine, uses much less memory than the previous one, has some really advanced technologies built in... etc.
I suggest you to download the trial of it from here (http://nct.digitalriver.com/fulfill/0184.077), and if you like it, you can buy a (or if you have, use your) subscription for it.

Just want to add to this: Norton Internet Security 2009 is so, so light on the system - barring a few bugs - that you do not even notice that it is there, as some Users have put it. I would Highly-Recommend Buying N.I.S. 2009 (not you, PapauZ, but cowchipstuff).

Hi,
I think, there is already a patch released for the compatability of IE7 and Norton 2005 products. Run the LiveUpdate repeatedly until you see the message that no more updates are available.
You can try to reinstall Microsoft Windows Script. Click the link for Microsoft Windows Script 5.7 for your version of Windows.

Hi cowchipstuff,
If you have details of your Norton 2005 product(Serial Number/Account ID/Product Key), contact the Symantec Customer Services using this LINK - Chat will be a better option. CONFIRM whether they can transfer/add the remaining 9 months subscription of Norton 2005 program if you go ahead with purchasing Norton Internet Security 2009. If they can, purchase NIS 2009 and activate the trialware(which you have currently installed) using the new Product Key that you have got along with the purchase. Then contact the Symantec Customer Services again to add the remaining subscription from your existing Norton 2005 program to Norton 2009 program. When you purchase Norton 2009 program, you will get the subscription of 1 year along. Thus, you will have 1 year + 9 months subscription( from Norton 2005 product) for your NIS 2009 program.
If they can't add the remaining subscription of Norton 2005 to NIS 2009, you don't have much choices left, need to reinstall Norton 2005. Then wait for your subscription to end and purchase the latest product(Upgrade) available.
Let us know what happens.
