Norton Internet Security vs. Norton 360 Permier Edition

Hi there,

Is Norton Internet Security (NIS) better or worse than Norton 360 Permier Edition (N360)?

My trial subscription of NIS on my Windows 7 PC is expiring in 29 days and I really like it. I have N360 on my Norton Account from a previous PC and it expires in 2 years. When NIS expires, should I just go with N360 and save come $$ since it's good for a couple more years or should I renew NIS?

I don't see a conparison chart so I'm not sure which product is better or offers more protection, but I do see N360 is more expensive to purchase.

What do you think is my best move?

Thanks,

Welcome Chris,

http://us.norton.com/products/charts/comparison.jsp?pcid=mp is a product comparison chart

ISNIS better/worse than 360? They are different products with different points of focus. They both provide the same level of protection but they don't have the same features and 'tweakability'

If you elect to use 360 please use the NOrton Removal Tool found here: http://www.symantec.com/nrt/ to eliminate all of the bits and bytes of  NIS before you install 360. If you are using the identity safe feature be sure to save it before you make the change.

From a money standpoint you can go with 360 until you decide it isn't what you need or the subscription expires. Then you can clean up your system and install NIS. The choice is yours and we'll be here to assist when you need us.

Stay well and surf safe

Re: Norton Internet Security vs. Norton 360 Permier Edition

Firstly here's your comparison chart:

http://us.norton.com/products/charts/comparison.jsp?pcid=mp

Secondly it's not so much better or worse in general as horses for courses .... However at this very moment NIS and NAV are 2012 versions of the AV engines etc while Norton 360 V5 is still on 2011 since they upgrade six months apart, approximately. But Norton 360 V6 is in Public Beta at present and last year it came out in the Spring (USA). And in any case if you get N 360 V5 now you are entitled to a free upgrade to V6 anytime while your subscription is in force.

SInce you say you have a 2 year subscription sitting there doing nothing (?) it might be best to use it -- see what you think when you have checked out the feature comparison. Note also that N 360 is aimed largely at a fit and forget market and so has fewer settings to tweak than in NIS or NAV. Some of the N 360 utilities can be useful but I don't regard them as essential, certainly not to safe computing!

If you decide to go to NIS do contact Norton's OnLine Customer Support via the CHAT route as below and see if they can convert your unexpired time on N 360 to add to the NIS either just to activate your trial as it is or if you buy a copy with 366 days than by adding to that. From all we hear they really are helpful ....

To contact customer support Click on this link and work on from there. You may have to scroll down a little to see the CHAT button.

Feedback from users tells us that CHAT is by far the best at resolving problems.

Please let us know how you get on ....

Re: Norton Internet Security vs. Norton 360 Permier Edition

Hello

If you are using the Identity Safe feature on NIS 2012, I don't think you can use it on N360 version 5 since they are in different forms. I don't think that feature is backwards compatible.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Re: Norton Internet Security vs. Norton 360 Permier Edition

New N360 v6 will be released in the beginning of February.

 - v.5 has antivirus engine from NIS2011.

 - v.6 will have the engine from NIS2012.

Antivirus part of N360 has the same settings as NIS. Therefore, N360 will give you the same protection level as NIS (2011 for v.5 and 2012 for v.6 from the February).

You can install v.5 now and upgrade to v.6 in the february (upgrade is free, no charge)
