Re: Norton Safe Web problems

Can you right click on the empty space next to the url bar and put a check next to Norton toolbar.

Re: Norton Safe Web problems

Or go to tools > manage add ons > all add ons and enable the Norton entries.

Re: Norton Safe Web problems

I went to tools and enabled all that Norton stuff.  No change.  Nothing.

Re: Norton Safe Web problems

junkfresh,

Please enable the Norton Tool Bar, restart your browser and check to see you have these three "add ons" and they are enabled.

Norton Toolbar

Symantec NCO BHO

Symantec Intrusion Prevention

The middle one "Symantec NCO BHO" I believe is responsible for the safe web function, If you disabled the toolbar from the IE menu bar it may have been disabled (it is best enabled for the most protection). I have tested this in IE9 (I know you are at 8) and I get a warning that the Symantec NCO BHO will be disabled.

Re-test your safe web activity after the above steps

Please let us know how you are doing and sorry for not asking more appropriate questions in my prior post

All the best -- Bill

Re: Norton Safe Web problems

No change. I also cleared my cache before restarting IE8.  No ones suggestions have worked.  I am lost.

Re: Norton Safe Web problems

junkfresh,

Thank you for trying, you may be already aware that the new NIS 2012 version is out, a re-install is looking like an option at this point. You may wish to update to the new version and that should surly take care of the issue, or re-install the 2011 version if you are dying to know it was a "broken" program.

I am not familiar with the software you mentioned earlier, but something seems to have affected your Norton program (this is very rare). The total disappearance of the safe web function, is quite odd.

Good luck -- Bill

[ Edited ]

Hi ya Junkfresh, I believe I may have re-created your problem with Safe Web in Internet Explorer. In the toolbar at the top of internet Explorer click on the 'view tab' - 'Toolbars' and make sure 'Norton Toolbar' is checked. See image below:

Norton Toolbar.JPG

If it is not ticked, click on it and you should get this window appear.., make sure both items are ticked!

enable addon.JPG

Safe web should now work ok. I tried disabling it myself by un-ticking both items in the above box and safe web stopped working. i.e. No green tick marks next to my searches.

Hopefully this will help?

P.S. It's 05.55 am right now and I'm well and truly knackered so please forgive me if I misunderstood your problem.
