Norton Site Problem?

[ Edited ]

I just started my PC and after a few minutes, I received the alert that Norton detected a problem and is trying to fix the problem.  Then the error 8506,422 showed up.  I tried to log into the Norton Community, to find out what error 8506,422 is, but I get to the Norton Community screen then the PC locks up.  If I Minimize that screen, I can go ahead and use the PC?  I can log onto other internet sites and I can use already installed software.  I logged into Firefox and as soon as I got to the Norton Community page, that browser locked up also?  I have to go into Task Manager to stop and dump those webpages.  I right clicked on the Norton Icon and it showed there was a problem and was trying to fix it.  After a few seconds, the red warning turned green and secure notice came back up.  The web sites still lock up the PC, even after the Fix?  Is it me or the website?  I had to use a different PC to enter this post.

Windows 7 Home SP1 - IE 9.0.8112.16421 - NIS 2012 19.9.1.14 - Ghost Ver 15.0.1.36526 - Dell Optiplex GX280 PC.

Re: Norton Site Problem?

Additional Info...  Two CPU's both run at 50 to 60% with Norton website locked up..  When I shutdown the Norton site, CPU's drop to 3 to 5%?

Hi PC_confused,

Don't know if this is any help or not - the Norton KB for that error is here:

Re: Norton Site Problem?

yank, thanks for the link.  I followed the "Fix" instructions and already used the NRnR program.  I'm not getting the error now but I still can't get to the Community website on that PC?  I'm not being redirected, its just I can't seem to get into the Community website?  All of my other websites and programs work normally, just the Community website and just on that PC?

Re: Norton Site Problem?

Is there a way I can determine what is causing the Community Forum webpages to lock up?

Not exactly my area of expertise, but could it be a cache/temp file/ browser setting for cached pages etc ????

Compare your browser setting between the  different systems you use since it only occurs on one system.

I'll go back to my corner now - hope you get it sorted.

Re: Norton Site Problem?

yank - About the same thing started happening when Norton added all those links at the bottom of the page.  Only then, all PC were having problems, not just one.  That PC isn't having any problem with any other websites and it is the only 1 of 3 PC's I own that is having problems.  Scans with NIS2012, SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes all come up clean?  Has me confused..

hello,

Try checking host file in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc". Open it with notepad and see any norton link there. if it exists, delete it and save. I hope it helps you.

Re: Norton Site Problem?

Thank you for the suggestion, AdityaTiku, there was only the one address there and I think it is the host file address.  I may just uninstall NIS and try installing it again.

Re: Norton Site Problem?

Well I still don't know what was causing my problem, getting the Norton Community to open.  I removed and reinstalled NIS2012 twice, I ran Full Norton Scans in normal and safe modes, I also ran SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and even NPE.  No problems found.  I still could not get logged in.  I finally updated to IE8 and now I can get into the Community.  That last 42 MB update the other day, must have done something to IE7?
