Re: Norton Toolbar and Firefox 9.01

I did all the "re-booting and running LiveUpdates until you're certain that no more updates are available".

Re: Norton Toolbar and Firefox 9.01

I did a Live Update this evening and 19.5.0.145 was pushed to my computer.  Everything is working for me again.  Will have to wait and see if Firefox 10 is supported.

Re: Norton Toolbar and Firefox 9.01

Please do not update to Firefox 10 until you see an announcement concerning an update to the Norton Toolbar posted here.  Most toolbar issues arise from installing the new browser prior to installing the Norton Toolbar patch.  Make sure that Norton supports the new browser before upgrading to it.

Re: Norton Toolbar and Firefox 9.01

Hi all,

Thank you to everyone for your comments and your advice! Imacri, thank you for the detailed posting, I understand how it all works a little more. The coFFPlgn.dll file is still the older version, even after multiple installs.

After following Imacri's instructions twice, I'm still running the out of date toolbar. And it looks like Lex and I are in the same boat. I've thrown in the towel, after another three days fiddling with it, I'm not wasting any more time. I've switched to Chrome. The toolbar works perfectly, and I was able to find add-ons comparable to my FF ones in the Chrome web store.

Lex, I know it's a pain, but I am finding Chrome works for me. Until Symantec figures out what the $%&# is up, I'm not using FF again, and would recommend you think about doing the same. Best of luck!

Thanks again to everyone for all your help, it has been and is truly appreciated!!!

Hi hlymy14:

I think there are quite a few Norton users who have given up on Firefox because of recurring issues with the Norton Toolbar.  I had this problem myself when Mozilla released FF 5.x and it took me almost a week to get my Norton extensions working again.

For other users who'd like to continue using Firefox as their default browser, I've been taking the following precautions and haven't run into any problems with my Norton extensions since FF5.x:

  1. Disable automatic updates of Firefox (Tools | Options | Advanced | Update).
  2. If LiveUpdate requests that you re-boot your computer, always close your Firefox browser before the re-boot, since a requested re-boot is a good indicator that LiveUpdate is trying to install some kind of product update.
  3. Do not manually upgrade Firefox until you are sure that Symantec has delivered the updated Norton extension(s) for the latest Firefox release (see SendOfJive's comment in message # 14).

The release notes for Firefox 10.0 here state that "most add-ons are now compatible with new versions of Firefox'.  However, I don't know if that improved compatibility includes the Norton browser extensions.  Hope springs eternal. :smileyhappy:

Re: Norton Toolbar and Firefox 9.01

Too late. Even though I set Firefox to only update when I choose to, it had the update ready, and when I restarted Firefox I could but watch it being updated.

So now I have Firefox 10 and, once again, no Norton Tollbar.

I may go to Chrome too...

Re: Norton Toolbar and Firefox 9.01

I have NIS 2012 and Firefox 10.  The toolbar is working just fine.  I had to manually run Live Update to get the patch.  Not sure if the automatic updates won't install it or if it's ust a coincidence that it was available at the same time I did the manual update.  After reboot, I installed Firefox.  After it was updated, I had to go to my list of extension and manually enable the toolbar.  I guess the toolbar was previously disabled and stayed disabled after the Norton/Firefox update.  Anyway, after manually running Live Update, rebooting and manually enabling the toolbar, it's working great for me.

Hi Everyone:

For anyone following this thread who is still having problems with their Norton Toolbar in Firefox 9.x or 10.x:

Please check your current version of NAS or NIS at Support | About.  If you use the English version and have not received the product update to v. 19.5.0.145 via LiveUpdate yet, please see SlamDunkey's thread here titled Updated But Still On 19.2.0.10.  It looks like Tim Lopez and other Symantec employees are monitoring that thread and posting their updates there.

NAV and NIS 2011 English users should have been updated from v. 18.6.0.29 to v. 18.7.0.13.

Tim Lopez has posted information here about the Firefox 10 compatible Norton extensions. Tim's thread is pinned at the top of the forum here along with other important notifications related to product updates.
