With Firefox's new 6 week release schedule I expect Norton (and other vendors) to be compatible with version 5 about the time version 6 is released. And so on. I think Firefox has done a bad thing here.

Duh! It is NOT final it is RC (release candidate) . This version will probably become the final RTW on June 21 but can still be changed before then.

It's not 6 weeks, that's Google, it's more like 3 months release schedule, I doubt it will take that long for Norton to make the Norton Toolbar compatible. It usually takes them about a week or two to get things sorted.

A week or two? Where did you get these numbers? With Firefox 4 this was rather months.

No, it was two weeks. Firefox 4 was released on March 22 and the Compatibility Hotfix was released two weeks later on April 6. A few weeks later Firefox 4.0.1 again broke the Toolbar when it was released on April 28. The Norton 18.6.0.29 patch, which fixed this problem was released as a controlled release on May 2. It just seemed like months. Probably felt like years if you worked for Symantec.

OK, so while Firefox 5 isn't officially released until tomorrow, it's available in release form at Tom's Hardware now - which implies Norton should have access to it now (if not earlier). Will NIS 2011 be ready for it tomorrow? If not, when?

Hi garlen,
In the past it has normally taken a couple of weeks, following the final release of a new version of Firefox, for the Norton Toolbar to be fully tested and made available. As you know, the Firefox release schedule is newly accelerated, and so changes to the browser from one release to the next may not be as significant as they were when going from 3.6 to 4 - so it is difficult to predict how much time will be necessary to complete a compatible toolbar this time. If you need the Norton feature, stay with FIrefox 4 until the new toolbar is announced.

We do not have any information about the plugin's release date yet. But we can assume that Symantec is ready (or almost done the testings), maybe they are just waiting Mozilla to release the final version officially.

We've been working hard to ensure that our products are compatible with Firefox 5. Once it is officially released and we've performed some testing on the final release, we'll be able to provide some more information on the compatibility of the Norton Toolbar with this new Firefox update.
For now, I recommend that you update to Firefox 4.0.1 to ensure you have the latest security updates for that browser. Thanks!
