Hi - totally frustrated and hope someone can help. Had major issues with laptop - 2 crashes, full recovery - can't even remember how many times at the beginning of the year. Things sorted out - new hard drive etc...current issue I'm having - laptop wasn't starting properly - took it in to tech guy as I noticed Norton wasnt even coming on or showing up...it was like it totally disappeared except for icon on the desktop. Tech guy said he couldn't even "uninstall" Norton as it wasnt showing anywhere. After having my laptop all day - trying to scan for viruses - crashed 2x - Windows isn't updating (hasn't for a while) - downloaded AVG and gave it back to me temporarily. AVG is now a "phantom" again and isn't showing up in programs...wouldnt let me install it again...now trying to install Avasti.
Am running - Windows 7, using MS Office 2010, Toshiba laptop...what else can I tell you?? Am about to drive over my laptop...can anyone give me any advice??? Tech guy said he was trying to search "under windows" to find a virus - said he removed several but said there are still more that have to be cleaned out.
Have been a loyal Norton user for several years - am totally frustrated...behind with my biz...and at wit's end!! Am happy to be paying for Norton...it's not finding viruses...have even tried the Norton Power Eraser - which was totally useless...why am I paying again??? argh!!!

1. You tech guy is no good, there are ways to remove Norton, and a PC Tech who is trained would know that.
2. You can't have Norton, AVG etc all installed on the one PC, little wonder you have problems.
3. The tech guy hahaha, trying to find malware under Windows, hahahaha good luck

Welcome,
For serious infections 'Quads' is your best resource. Follow his instructions to the letter and he will get things fixed.
I will assume that you are on a different computer to post here. Be patient and be careful.
So far as I know there are no fees for any of the help you receive here. If you feel that you have been helped a'kudu' for the helper is a great way to say thank you.

UMMMM Quads = No
a Tech (so called) guy in front of the PC will find it much easier to pull the software out and other items Objects than over a forum.
Having a "Tech" gay and another person working at the same time is like getting instructions from 2 or more Removal forums.
Who knows what has been installed, uninstalled or corrupted, and also what "viruses" he has already removed, He can have fun trying to find the families around at the moment in Windows.

Hi..am new to these types of boards...am assuming I should ask "quads virus trouncer" to help me out? If yes, no problem...
Quads...I'm not a techie so have to trust ppl that have their own biz as I don' t know what's right and wrong. However, I am smart enough to know not to have more than one antivirus system on my laptop. Since Norton was mysteriously wiped out, and when AVG was installed Friday...it has also mysteriously disappeared. I was successful in installing Avasti...and am currently doing a full system scan...its at 17% right now.
Hubby tells me that I should have always done a "check live updates" every time I turned my laptop on and a quick scan. I believe I had my Norton set to do that automatically...but he said I should do it anyways...kinda feels like "checking the checker"....
How can I get rid of these viruses that I apparently still have?
How can I fix Windows so that I actually does update itself and run the files...right now it doesnt download them properly (get errors)...and then it still tries to install them!!
What kind of antivirus system is the "best" out there...and how am I supposed to check that it's doing its job??

I will remove myself from this discussion so that you and Quads can sort things out.
After you have a clean system we can talk

There is no way I am touching a system that has a Tech working on it and at least 3 AV's installed.
The Tech may have his own business but if he has given it back to you not fixed Take it back and tell him to fix it that is what you have paid for and, for instance in NZ if a shop does repairs on something and has given it back not fixed you are covered by the Consumers Guarantees Act. He is to do the job he is paid to to.
He need to read up about AV products for a start and how all AV products have Removal tools.
