I have a couple of question about the Norton custom schedualed scans. First, why do they run in the backround? It use to pop up a GUI window where you could pause or cancel a scan. That leads me to my second quesation, how do you cancel or pause a Norton custom schedualed scan? If its in the backround, how do you stop it?

Hi Miroku4444,
1. why do they run in the backround?
We have defaut settings in NIS to run in background. If we want to run it in foreground create a scan under custom scan and select list of files/drives/folder to be scanned
Attached screenshot below,
Go to Main UI->Click on scan now->click on custom scan->Click on edit scan in pencil mark for full and quick scan
Create new scan under custom scan
2.It use to pop up a GUI window where you could pause or cancel a scan. That leads me to my second quesation, how do you cancel or pause a Norton custom schedualed scan? If its in the backround, how do you stop it?
Once you run new scan you will have option pause or cancel
Thanks,
Senthil

Yes, i know after creating a custom scan if you hit run, you get the GUI interface where you can pause or cancel.
I have a custom scan set up for each day of the week. I have all mine set up for 11:30PM, and when that time arrives, it starts the scan automatically in the backround, with no way to shut it down. It seems to work like the backround quick scan or idle scan. The manually started scans you have control over, its just the automatically started ones you can shut down.
I forgot to mention my product is Norton Antivirus 2012.

If you bring up the Main UI then click on scan, then on custom scan, you will see a list of all your custom scans. If you want to stop or cancel one that is going on, just click the run button on the scan that is running then the scan ui will come up and you can then cancel the scan or pause it.

That worked, but i had to un-check it also. If i didnt it re-started after i canceled it. I wish they would have put an option in the setting to let us determine if the scan was run in the backround or foreground.
