I do not own this Norton, but I am a user. Norton has existed on this account since a year ago, removes most of the viruses but does not and currently isn't removing the Think Point malware. I realized that it isn't a product from Microsoft, and found a way around, but it isn't pleasing every time I have to get into task manager just to start up the computer. Norton's backup is at full capacity but for a few months my family has ignored that. We believe it has nothing to do with the malware.
There is a current website that I have done research on that removes this specific problem: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
For now I am not going to use that because I am waiting for Norton to tell me why it is not fixing this common problem.
Requesting an answer soon. Please reply.

I found this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFtXnIQAm0Y&feature
however, please use this link to download malwarebytes' as I cannot vouch for the security of the site mentioned: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
If the malware blocks the download from that site use: http://www.filehippo.com/download/file/455b312ce00

Thanks for the quick reply, but I want Norton to do their job. :)

It seems the fake av is quite new. It would take time for Symantec to analyze the virus, find the best way to remove it, and then produce a definition for the virus. Sonar should catch it because of its suspecious behavior but its just a preliminary generic catch so it might not remove all part of the virus. The best way policy is not run any "new" or unknown untrusted software.
I'm sorry to hear that Norton have not picked up the virus samples you found. You can submit the virus samples to Symantec to be added to their virus signatures through this page: http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response

Hi skim:
For one thing, most of the rogues require user interaction to get installed. For another thing, no one here except the Mods are employed by Symantec. We are all volunteers. As such, I highly recommend leaving the trolling out of any conversations as that will not be an effective way of obtaining any help.
If you insist that Norton remove it, you might be more successful in safe mode, if you can get there. Rogues severely interfere with the running of security software, and much as your Norton would like to help you, it might not be able to do so.
Malwarebytes is also a highly recommended method of removing the malware. You may need to download it as MBAM.com if the Thinkpoint is intterfering with .exe's.

Just to elaborate Delph's comment, Symantec employees have a "red" name and most have a Symantec logo in their avatar.
To avoid confusion, I added a phrase to my signature that specifically mention I'm not a Symantec employee.
Anyways, is thinkpoint gone from your PC?
