Norton folder name

[ Edited ]

Hi!

I just reinstalled NIS 2010 on a clean Windows installation, and I noticed something in the Norton folder. When it is created, it is named NIS_17.6.0.32 (of course, since that is the version of the installer), but after the update to 17.7.0.12, the folder name doesn't change to reflect that, but is still named NIS_17.6.0.32. I'm talking about the one in ProgramData\Norton, not the one in ProgramFiles (x86).

Just wondering if that's how it should be - I can't remember if I checked last time.

Thanks

Re: Norton folder name

Have you rebooted since the update.  Sometimes it needs a boot or two to get the engine name changed over.

Re: Norton folder name

Yes I have.

As I said, I'm talking about the ProgramData folder, not the one in ProgramFiles. That one shows the correct version.

Re: Norton folder name

Hi Bombastus,

I believe this is perfectly normal. In my program data folder mine has 17.1.0.19 which is the first version installed for NIS 2010.

If you look at the dates underneath this like in the Definitions folder you will see them reflect the current date for when definitions were last pulled down.

For example check the VirusDefs folder and you will probably see something like:

20100731.002 as one of the folder names. This would indicate that definitions were last pulled down today and I believe the .002 would indicate it was the second set of definitions for that date.

Hope this helps.

Allen

Re: Norton folder name

Allen is indeed correct that this is normal.  The folder in question will retain the original installed version number even when the sub folders are updated.

On my XP and Vista machines the folder is 17.0.0.136.  On my Win7 machine (March 2010) the folder is 17.5.0.127
