Norton is loosing loyal customers, because automatic deleting of threats! :(

[ Edited ]

Ive been loyal Norton owner/fan for the past few years, but things starting to look very bad for Symantec.

Why? this is not a complaint about Norton latest version bugs, i can live with it without any problems, really.

But what bugging me, and many other advanced users, is the fact Norton keep deleting files, without option to restore them! its really anoying, for exapmle, 2 days ago i downloaded graphical mod for Crysis 2, which was 1.2GB, and Norton delete it even it was perfectly clean! without option to restore or anything...mind you i got slow internet, and the download itself from the source was also capped at 50kbs, so i lost all ma free day (the only in the week i work alot) trying to download a legit file, because Norton give me ne option to restore it! so to make things even worse, on about 80% i was called by my friend to help him out, and i totally forgot about the download, he was kinda in panic (hes pc went crazy lol) so i went to fix it, when i come back the Norton deleted the new downloaded file as well, at this point i was so MAD you cant even imagine!!!!!

Now about the more important part, i know im just 1 user, and even Nortong ingnoring my wish to make option to restore files, wont hurth at all your sales, its ok i understand, but let me tell you this.

There is a forum, named Wilders Security, which is like a holy grail for security products fans, and proffesionals who work with security. In the past, Norton was always in the top of the recommendation of almost eevery advanced user there, including me...

Heck, i even "sold" more then 20 license for you where i live, bu presenting the great results your products achieved in 2010, i posted every single test from testing labs, Mrg Flash tests, AV-Comparatives,VBulletin, Passmark, AV-Test, PCMag 2011 etc..after which peopple bought quite a bit copies from the retailer where i live, and my psot was published on the most visited IT forum (on the portal) where i live, and later on shared on FB, which gained alot of popularity of your products, and peopple actually bought quite a bit copies and where asking me if i work for you cause i hyped your product so much. Here is the link if you dont trust me, mind you this is not on english, and im registred at that forum as Psyside, the thread was called, the best antitivirus prodcuts of 2010/2011.

http://www.it.com.mk/najdobrite-antivirusi-za-20102011-ta/

Yes im still big fun of your products, but im ready to move away, and trust me, its not just me...your losing the majority of advanced users, and security enginers over at Wilder Security forums, (im a mamber there) they are all started to ditching Norton because of the anoying file removal without optiont to restore them! thats crazy...you dont have to make your product offer option to restore files which are cought by Sonar/Autoprotect, at least not visable if you dont change advanced settings.. I know this is safety mode so noobs cant restore harmful malware, its ok we understand your logic, but you can add option to press 1 button, and make it show whenever there is an malware processing. For example, advance-settings- real time protection - remove risk automaticly - ask me (which never works) add here option restore removed files option (with warnning about being advanced users based option and do it on your own risk)

This way we can enjoy Norton in the future, and many advanced, and moderate users wlll get peace of mind, especially now when your products are getting more FP then it the past, please....dont make us stop supporting Norton just becaue of this, i know you can fix this, its not such a big problem...really...trust me the amount of time, and work in order to make this happen, its so smaller and will cose you alot less, then the big amout of users, which are leaving Norton just because of this....

Im still loyal Norton fan, and all of my friends, and family using only Norton...because of me, i recommend your products whenever there is securiy software discussion, and i praise the Intrusion prevention, the great behavior blocker, the download intelegence feature, auto protect, heurestics, basiacally everything but i will have to stop if this doesent get fixed!

SO PELASE SYMANTEC, hear US! reprot this to your HQ, dont let Norton lose the reputation for such a small change...we are not asking you to change your engine...nothing big, just add the option please!

Thanks!

As dazed81 has mentioned, this issue is becoming more concerning with the increase in false positives alerted by Norton.

I am upset that no employee of Symantec has responded to questions regarding the increase of false positives. Anyone who questions the increase of false positives can look directly at the False Positive Tests run by av.comparatives.org/

To both of you,

Nothing will happen overnight - there are too many users being affected to 'quick fix' it. Let them do their thing and I'm thinking that most of us will be happyu with the results. I refrain from saying 'everybody' because I know of nothing that suite everybody.

Hahaha! My thoughts too! Seriously though I have removed Norton. I can be won back but it will take as long as it takes Symantec to resolve this issue. As for right now I will not use or recommend this product.

I agree with Dazed81 and Cyberghost, Symantec should provide an option to recover or ask the user whether the file should be deleted or not.

Cheers!

Overnight? im not asking this issue to be adressed at once, but lets say in about 1 month max? if they don't add the option till then, that's it..i'm removing Norton, and that means, my familly and freinds as well.

i'm awaiting for admin/mod answer on this.

Hi,

I'm not official but I doubt that you will get a promise of a fix within a specified amount of time. I feel sure that the staff is aware of the problem and that it is on the list of things to do. What will not be released is the date when it will be fixed. As I've been told before by those who know 'it will be released when we are sure it works'. Visit often, help others and before you know it the fix will be on your system.

Thanks for the input, i dont want to sound like idiot, or my post to look like i'm making an "blackmail" or anything...lol! My english is not so good, so some parts of my post may look inappropriate...bare that in mind.

I just wanted to say, that im almost at the end of my patience (and im not the only one) this has been asked before few times, but it was never solved...it would be nice at least to get confimation that they are working on it, really. I have to turn off Norton before my downloads ends just to avoid this....its really frustraiting at times :(
