As soon as I saw that it caused IE to take several extra seconds just to open, I knew I'd be disabling it. I guess it makes sense that it slows down page loads as well.

NIS adds 3 addons to IE:

- Norton Toolbar

- Symantec NCO BHO

- Symantec Intrusion Prevention

Which one did you disable ?

Thanks for the info.

Firefox is faster the IE.  NIS 2010 is really cool.  May computer seems faster now then before when I had McAfee.

When I went to disable the Norton toolbar from within IE, it popped up a notice very similar or identical to what you wrote, which was interesting because I didn't realize it was that thorough. I believe it was all or nothing. I think it disabled all three components.

Using IE8's 'Reset Internet Explorer settings' option will fix the slow tab closing issue when the Norton 2010 toolbar is enabled. Please ensure that you read the 'How does resetting affect my computer' link that you will be presented with before proceeding so that you fully understand the implications of performing the reset.

Re: Norton toolbar(NIS 2010) cause IE8 slowed down

I am happy to hear that in your case it just slows down the web browsing, in mine it completely stops web pages from loading. Disabling the safe web helped mitigate the problem for a while but it came back again. The only way I could get back my internet speed was by unisntalling the entire NIS 2010 suite. Still looking for a solution.
