OMG: Norton Internet Security 2009 is so bad (12+ hours to not finish a full scan).

I am uninstalling Norton Internet Security 2009, it took 12+ hours to NOT finish a full scan.

The scan locked up my PC for 30 minutes while scanning a DVD-0ROM (5 CoD WoW). Only patience and strl+alt+delling and keyboard shortcuts revived my pc as the mnouse and screen was not updating period.

I expected better than this, maybe you need to focus less on resource usage and actually use the resources to get the job done rigth and faster.

Uninstalled.

This sounds not really normal.

What was your previous security set up? How did you remove that? What kind of system are you running?

I have to agree here.

Were they any Windows Open when you were Running the Scan?  If so, how many windows were Open?  You should always Scan with a minimal amount of Windows Open.

This could also be Malware.

Well why did you have CD in your DVD drive. If your scanning your PC for virus you do not leave a CD in your drive or else it will be scanned. From what you said those CD's in your drive were COD and WOW. Both containing about 10 gigs of files and folders. Are you using any other security products? Did you try scanning with no cd's in the drives? I have approx 700,000 files and it takes NIS 2009 3 hours to complete a full scan. Also the speed of a scan depends upon the speed of your processor.
Real Time Protection = NIS 2009 + NAT
Behavior Analysis = Threatfire
On Demand = MBAM

Previously I was running Symantec Antivirus Corporate (supplied by work) and Spybot and had no issues.

I have a Quad core Q6600/8800GTX/4GB DDR2, RaptorX SATA 2 HDD, 2x Seagate 7200.11 drives (Custom built).

Uninstalled NIS.

So was your problem with Symantec Corporate or NIS? Did you try what I suggested?

Over 1 million files on 4 HDs takes just over 3 hrs for me and my system is slower. Not sure why you scanned a dvd, even if there was something on it, no AV from anyone can fix that.
