All licenced software has an authentication component in it.

I don't see any benefit to Norton nor to the legitimate user in knowing HOW.
Be sure that they can ....... <s>

Since the software now stops working entirely when the subscription runs out, support calls for it by non-payers are apt to be much shorter in duration. ![]()

When you click the 'Launch Support Web Site' button in the One Click Support window, your Norton product creates a unique URL that contains all the product information that it needs to know about your system and it's activation status. When the Support site opens in your browser, select and copy the URL from the browser's address bar and paste it into Microsoft Word or Notepad. This will show you all the information about your product and system that is sent to the Norton Support Site.

elvis,
I wasn't meaning to brush off your enquiry and unfortunately I couldn't get back to it yesterday. I see others have.
I'd just add one point -- if you check back through messages here you will see from time to time a message complaining that their instalation has popped up a warning that their KEY is invalid .... and invariably it turns out that they bought their copy on the internet and not from an authorized source.
So as you can see "the system" does verify things .....
Of course for major on line support it's not uncommon for the support person to take control, with your permission, of your computer and so again they would have access to your activation KEY.
Thanks for caring about piracy ....
