Optimization vs Defragmentation

I installed and am using NIS2010- great job everyone!

The difference between NIS Optimization and regular disk defrag isn't clear to me.  Anyone know?

Thanks!

Re: Optimization vs Defragmentation

I was wondering the same thing. Honestly, if anything, my computers are now much slower to boot up after running the optimization feature in NIS.

Re: Optimization vs Defragmentation

There is none.  The Optimize routine calls the regular OS defag utility.  In XP, it only does the "Boot" section (C:\Windows for example).  If you have a third party defragmentation utility, you may get better results using that.

Re: Optimization vs Defragmentation

You're exactly right, dbrisendine. I just ran the "Optimize" feature and it calls up the defrag process. I decided to open up the defrag application and, sure enough, it was running. Interesting.
