Hi there,

Why is there no Password not needed option when using the identity safe online vault?

Thanks

Re: Password needed for identity safe online vault

Hi,

Its actually by design it was decided to be that way.

Since the data are now synced up in cloud we have brought up restrictions for using the Online vault. We don't allow the users to be logged into profile always even when they are at sleep mode and that's the reason we prompt for password even on resume from sleep mode. Its all for the data security purpose.

Hi prasanna_a,

I understand your point of view but at the end of the day it's the USER'S data NOT Norton's. I think that yes you should have something like (not recommended) next to the option but it should still be the user's choice, after all we pay for the product.

I would love to use this online vault feature, it's something that's long over due, but like my LOCAL profile (I have no password needed set), I don't want to keep being bugged for my password everytime I restart my computer.

Storing personal data in the cloud is far different than storing it locally, where access to the physical machine can be limited and you have control of the information.  A compromise of your online vault would allow a hacker to access every online account that you maintain!!  What a nightmare that would be.  You can't reasonably argue that Symantec should trade off a basic security safeguard simply for the sake of eliminating a minor inconvenience.

Hi,

Yes, you are right, its User's data and not Norton's, so we don't want to compromise with that. When bringing in such restrictions, we make sure that none can break into your vault and the data is blocked for any unauthorized access. At the end of the day, we are a company who deal with security product and we need make our users feel the money invested on Norton is valued. And we would like to value your comments too, "Not recommended" option looks cool but just post it in our product suggestions area our teams will review it when we start gathering our next set of requirements.

Thanks for the support, looking forward for the same kind of support..!

Prasanna

Hi Ninko,

There is a trade-off in choosing to use something like an online ID Safe vault. There simply is NO way to keep this data safe without requiring a strong password.

I feel there is a certain point at which Symantec should not cross a line and allow something which they know will result in compromise of critical personal data, for the sake of user convenience.

Think of it this way, if you have an online bank account they have certain requirements which you have to meet when you configure your password. Even if you were to sign a disclaimer that you would not hold them responsible for loss of funds they still would not let you configure your account for NO password.

Best wishes.

Allen
