I am using NIS2012.WIN7 64
Yesterday I was doing a reg.clean and noticed strange, Chinese looking, characters in one of the keys.HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\SESSION MANAGER

What were you using for your reg clean? I don't think it's a function of Norton Internet Security? Registry Cleaning can be dangerous!

In all three instances in my registry hive, they match what you have with the exception of the chinese characters.
Perhaps someone can translate those chinese characters and offer us a clue.

I use CC cleaner as I have been doing for a long time.I have scanned using NIS,MBAM, and Hitman Pro,and all come out clean.
Just curious as to what those letters mean,as they were not there before.
Thanks.

Thanks -- I use CCLeaner too because it offers to back up first and you have to select what it actually lists as possibles ....
I've seen some other posts about chinese characters appearing so hang on for some help on this.
Here's a link to some messages in this Forum that you might like to check out:

Thanks!
Will certainly hang around for an update on what these characters mean!
NIS has not issued any malicious warnings, so I feel that there is no infection, but the addition of these
letters is perplexing!

One thing I do when I do run CCleaner whether on the clean up function or on the reg clean is to make sure that I uncheck any entry that refers to Fonts or Type Library. Windows nowadays is very sensitive to its fonts and many that by their name or characteristics (languages we know we will never use for example) seem useless and removable turn out to have some hidden significance to Windows and removing them breaks something.
So one thing you might do is to see if you can restore back in time or run a SFC routine if you think this could have happened.

Since a translation is not yet offered, perhaps a copy of the registry value onto a txt or rtf file, or through the forum post. Not sure if my browser addon can translate through them, but it cannot through images.

Ok,thanks,
Here is the txt file containing those characters.

I'm sorry to report the txt file is unreadable as is. Are the chinese characters readable in your txt file? Methinks notepad is too simple-minded for the task.
Perhaps the registry value should be copied to an Office-type open-document file, which should support the display of chinese characters with the proper settings. I use LibreOffice and its .odt extension to help display chinese character song titles gleaned from the web.
