Norton is getting on my last nerve. I spent like $80 on this & cant get it to work right.
I'm pretty sure its installed. I use FireFox as my defualt browser. Now FireFox doesnt work, but Explorer will. When I try to do anything like updates for protection, spyware defs...it wont let me do it.

Providing some information would be helpful. Which Norton product are you having trouble with? Are you running Windows XP or Vista? What Service Pack for the operating system?
What do you mean "pretty sure its installed"?
Did you have another security product installed prior to Norton?
What information do you see when you open the Norton control panel?
Give us something to work with and we'll try our best to help.
Norton 360 • Norton Internet Security • Norton Zone | XP SP3 • Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

Try to un-install then re-install LiveUpdate.
Removing and Reinstalling components should NOT be the first response to problems, unless it is listed as a specific step by Symantec Customer Support. The linked KB document lists steps to resolve a specific error, and for the issue in this thread, no error message has been stated. Before we encourage others to use a removal tool and reinstall, we should gather information on an issue and see if there is an easier resolution.

Its Norton INternet Security 2008. I'm running vista. Dunno what service pack, whatever it cam with i guess. ?
What do you mean "pretty sure its installed"? It says 300 something days left, I guess its for a year service.
Did you have another security product installed prior to Norton? Just a few popup stoppers.
It says "At Risk" & to fix now at the very top left corner.
Protection Updates are "At Risk"
Spyware def. "At Risk"
Virus & Spyware Scan "At Risk"
It won't update anything. Live Update won't work & now my browser FireFox won't work but Explorer will, so my internet works but firefow won't.

Hi JRoc615,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems. You have landed on your feet by coming here - there are plenty of skilled people to help sort these things out for you.
We needed to know information about your PC so that we tailor our solution to your specific needs - so thanks for the info. It helps.
Vista can be very temporamental - I have a dual boot OS - XP PRO / Vista Ultimate. I know each has had a huge number of updates recently. MS and others found a fault in the internet backbone and they have released patched to plug up the security flaw. Some of the patches caused programs like Zonealarm to stop working properly. I've not heard that NIS2008 has had the smae problems.
The link in my earlier post is from the knowledgebase. This knowledgebase is a very useful resource - perhaps you might book mark it for future reference.
Do you know if you have the latest version of NIS2008 - it *should* be 15.5.0.23 . Open up the Norton Protection Centre, click on help and then about. Then click on the tab for Norton Internet Security ... see below.

My earlier post gave you a link to the latest version of NIS2008. It's probably best that you check your version number and, if you need to, download the update file and work from there. It might solve this bu itself.
The Norton Removal Tool is a last ditch method of cleaning out all Symantec files from your system so that you can do a clean install. Others might leap to this point based on experience and that's OK. Nothing that you have said suggests to me that we need do this just yet. But, if our efforts aren't successful, we may.
The error messages can be worrying ... don't let them raise your blood pressure. The 'at risk' is a catch all term which in my humble opinion frightens some people unnecessarily. It's accurate though ... if, for example, you have not run liveupdate for a while then NIS may not have the last program updates and the virus definitions might be old ... hence at risk. Not the same as - duck and cover, the world is ending <g>
Each thing you tell us helps point to where we should look.
So ... please check your NIS2008 version. If it is not 15.5.0.23 then download and install the file in my first message ... the one with the latest version. Install it and it should automatically clean out the old version along the way. (If that causes problems we will deal with them seperately.)
I hope you have admin privilages for Vista. UAC (user access control) might seem like a good idea to some - I find it's implementation to be nightmarish. Always clicking things ... grr.
Get back once you have follow my first set of instructions and let us know how things went.
Good luck,

Hi JRoc615,
Anyone home?
How did you go ...?
Have you resolved the problem so we can close this thread?
Cheers
