Hello. I have a bit of trouble with NIS 2010 software (on laptop at least). I'll describe it as good as I can. I bought NIS 2009, istalled it on my desktop computer (Athlon64 X2 2.2ghz, 3gb ddr, vista ultimate 32), and it worked perfectly. Then I've decided to try this software on my laptop (Intel Core2Duo T5750 2.0 ghz, 3gb ddr2, vista home premium 32), and it also worked pretty good. Nex thing, I wanted to upgrade it to 2010 version on both computers, on desktop computer it's running pretty smooth (I can't say it's faster than 2009, but still fast enough), while on my laptop it's running very slow (cpu usage 90-100%). I was wondering if there's somekind of update or fix for this? Or perhaps somekind of NIS 2010 laptop version? I would appreciate any useful answers.
Thank you.
Matthew

Hi Matthew,
Just to confirm, on your laptop did you have NIS 2009 installed prior to NIS 2010?
And, did you install 2010 overtop of 2009?

Well, here's the thing, I'll make it short as possible as I can :)
I bought 2008 version, then upgraded to 2009 (uninstalled 2008 then installed 2009, which worked fine). When 2010 came out, I downloaded an update/upgrade to 2010 from the link which was provided from Symantec representative. As I was installing, I think it uninstalled 2009 automatically, then installed 2010 over it (I didn't uninstall it manually as earlier, at least not the first time).

It's Acer Aspire 6920G. As for processes, I don't know how much it would help posting the usage, since I've uninstalled NIS 2010 (for the moment), but here it is anyway:
- if I click on the CPU tab:
wlcomm.exe
taskmgr.exe
iexplore.exe
- MEMORY tab:
iexplore.exe
dwm.exe
firefox.exe
I hope this will help.

Hi maverick1234,
Did you uninstall NIS 2010 via the control panel? If you have no other Norton products on your computer, you may want to run the removal tool to get possible leftovers out of the registry:

Hi Matthew,
dbrisendine may have some further commentary based upon your computer specs.
In the meantime, please go into Programs & Features and be sure there are no entries named Live Update or Live Update Notifier.
These components were used with the 2008 product line, but are not required for the 2009 / 2010 products.
As long as you have no other Norton programs on your computer, these can be uninstalled if present.

Thank you. Hmm, there's nothing listed live update or notifier anymore, but I don't have NIS anymore on my laptop. I installed it on my desktop (I think it has 1 user 1 computer license). But can I try this with trial version? Are there the same cpu usage requirements as in full version?

The trial version is the same product as the full retail version.
The differences are that the trial version will work only for a limited period and will prompt for activation using a valid subscription.
Now I am confused. If you have a 1 PC license on your desktop, what type of license did you have for your laptop?
To the best of my knowledge, the 1 PC licenses have been phased out in favor of the 3 PC license.
