Problem with Safeweb verification

Hi.  Hope someone can help.  I have a website that I am trying to get verified - if it helps I have norton Internet Security too.  The website has been written by someone else who I am not on particularly good terms with anymore and I therefore can't access the root directory.  Also I have tried to put the long code into the 1 and only meta-tag box I can fill in but I still can't get verified (this is still in there at the moment).  Is someone able to have a look at my site and tell me how I can get verified as my customers are being put off coming to my site.

Many thanks for any help,

Karen

Re: Problem with Safeweb verification

Hi Karen,

If you will post the address of your website, I will be happy to take a look and make suggestions.

And if I may - if you're not on good terms with your webmaster, I would recommend a change. A webmaster can make or break your site.

I look forward to your reply.

Re: Problem with Safeweb verification

Hi Phil.  Thanks very much for your reply.  My website is www.chainsdirect.co.uk.  Yes, I am in the process of starting to move the website to a different person and host server etc - the NOP Commerce back office that the site has been built on is awful.  I have been told though that the transfer though is going to take some time.

Many thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.

Kind regards, Karen

Re: Problem with Safeweb verification

Hi Karen,

The automated verification process is failing due to the syntax of the meta tag. This is probably caused by the limited editing options available to you.

In viewing your source code, the meta tag looks like this:

<meta name="description" content="norton-safeweb-site-verification" /><meta name="keywords" content="agg1ukb...(your unique 128 character code)"/>

The proper format would be:

<meta name="norton-safeweb-site-verification" content="agg1ukb...(your unique 128 character code)"/>

Also, at the end of the tag, there is a space which should be removed.

Change  ...dknrfe" />  to  ...dknrfe"/>

If you are able to make those changes, the automated verification process should work.

However, realizing that your program may not allow you to do this, I am going to ask the Safe Web team to look at your site and see if they can manually verify ownership with the information you already have in place.

Re: Problem with Safeweb verification

Hi Paul, thanks very much for looking at this for me.  As I think you're expecting, I can't change the syntax for the meta tag so if your guys are able to look into this to be able to verify me that'd be much appreciated.  What I can do if needed to confirm I am the owner of the site is add wording or something onto the home page at your request so you know it's me who's done it.

Thanks again for your help.

Kind regards, Karen

Re: Problem with Safeweb verification

Hi Karen,

Just leave things the way they are. Since you were able to add the code, that is proof that you are the site owner.

The Safe Web team is very good at manual verification. Just allow them a bit of time to review your home page.

Hang in there - it should not be long!

Hi Rajesh

Thank you for that, it's much appreciated.  My thanks also to Phil for all your help with this - it's good now to see a tick next to my website instead of a question mark.

Best regards,

Karen
