So here's my problem.
When trying to send or receive a file over an IM Client, (such as Yahoo IM, or MSN), I'm unable to do so, (in the case of receiving one over YIM, it'll create a file of 12 bytes in size each time, saying that the transfer completed).
If I remove NIS2008, it seems to work fine, and if I install NIS2007, I have no problems sending or receiving files.
Example at the moment, my system I'm using, the Norton Control Panel says that I have no IM Clients compatable with NIS2008 installed, so the IM Client part of the tool isn't even active.
And here's the kicker, I can send files locally over these IM Clients with no problems, so if I want to send a file to my Mother's computer, or one of my other systems, as long as the computer is connecting via my internet connection, I'm able to do this.
Any suggestions?

Yup, I used it in the past when advised to by the support.
As soon as I uninstall NIS2008, I can send/receive files just fine, so I'm assuming it's probably down to some obscure congifuration setting....

Hi Scott,
did you try to set the program control (here in german Programmsteuerung)- you should find it in the Norton Internet Security tab, preferences, personal firewall (click configuration) and then lefthand in the menu. Search for your application .exe and try set to "access granted". I only have the german version and I hope that you will find it.......

hey ScottBull - I got stuck on this:
"And here's the kicker, I can send files locally over these IM Clients with no problems, so if I want to send a file to my Mother's computer, or one of my other systems, as long as the computer is connecting via my internet connection, I'm able to do this."
i'm wonder if this is a home networking thing. are the computers it works on part of your trust zone? how do those computers show up in your network map?

The files save in their correct format, .JPG, .MP3, .WMV etc, and when attempted to open, it will just say that it can't be opened, (12 bytes each time), the irony is I didn't experience this during testing.
As for the other systems, they're not even networked, the closest I've got to networking is a Windows Media Extension on my XB360, which can't receive files anyhow, and is only part of Windows Media Center.

I'll have to wait until a friend is on to receive another file, but I believe the 12 bytes is the size of the icon, and that any file received has no content, though I will force one to open on NotePad next time I receive one.
The files are recognised as the correct file-type, and open in the correct program, however, something is stopping the file from being transferred, and gives me a 12 byte "icon" representing the file, nothing else.
I'll let you know once I got something else on this, (once I receive another file), incidently, I'm able to Right-Click<Save As files from the net with no problem, as well as upload and download attachments received in emails, it's just the IM Clients it's going belly up with, and only with NIS2008.
