RE: Scans

Since this topic has come up again, I would like to revisit some of the details myself.  \please forgive the length of this post, and the time it will take to get it approved,  I would appreciate some feedback.

This is a new Win 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, hardly used NIS 2011.  These are my settings.

Scansettings.jpg

These are the scan details in order from Setember 1 to Oct 18.

Scan1sep01.jpg  This is the first scan after updating to 2011

Scan2sep10.jpg  This adds up pretty close and the time taken

Scan3sep17.jpg  Now it doesn't add up and it took just as much time

Scan4sep25.jpgNow it really gets goofy.  It takes longer to do less??

Scan5oct3.jpgNow it is really taking some time to do very little

Scan6oct10.jpgSo now we are back to normal

Scan7oct18.jpgSo a week later, what is with this??

Please feel free to comment.  For info, everything is updated, runs very nicely, no glitches or issues other than this needs some rational explanation.  I'm just not getting it.

Re: RE: Scans

Hi Delphinium,

You know the drill. :smileytongue: I have put in the request for Symantec to comment on this.

I must admit I'm wondering myself.

Best wishes.

Tywin7, you have not the same. your quantity of scan items is not vary.

delphinium, let us know about caching function (Settings -> Computer Settings -> Real Time Protection -> Auto-Protect -> Caching) : may be it was turned off, then the items with about 30000 files scanned and a scan time for a 40 minutes was occurred?

I was never good at algorithms, Niko233.  What caching, where, have you got in mind?

I was showing that scan takes longer even though the total scan file scan is less.  Plus, it makes no sense that the caching will flip itself off for no reason, unless you changed it delph.

I can't tell you one way or the other until somebody tells me what caching you are talking about.
